Sign Language Interpreter in Katy, TX

Make a real difference in a high school student's academic journey by providing essential sign language interpreting support within a supportive, dynamic educational environment. This contract position offers a fulfilling opportunity to work closely with a 9th grader in a behavioral class, facilitating their learning as they transition from a Residential Day School Program. The student utilizes cochlear implants, hearing aids, and an ALD device, and your expertise will be vital in supporting both communication and academic development.


In this role, you'll offer ASL interpretation during instructional hours only, averaging 6.5 hours a day, ensuring you are present for crucial classroom moments without duties during lunch or during arrivals and dismissals.


Qualifications and Experience:

• Possess at least one of the four national Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) certifications
• Experience working within educational settings, preferably at the high school level
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Understanding of assistive hearing devices and the unique needs of students with hearing impairments
• Ability to adapt communication styles and support behavioral and academic needs

• Provide clear and accurate ASL interpreting during instructional periods
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure effective communication for the student
• Contribute to a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere
• Respect and support the student's identity and individualized educational plan
• Maintain professional confidentiality and interpret with impartiality
