Educational Interpreter - Richmond, TX

Step into a vital support role helping a 9th-grade student thrive by providing American Sign Language interpretation in a behavioral classroom setting. This contract position will run from August 12, 2026, through May 27, 2027, offering the chance to work closely with a student adjusting to mainstream education after attending a Residential Day School Program. Situated near Richmond, TX, you'll contribute significantly during instructional periods, partnering with a team committed to accessible learning.


Qualifications & Required Skills:

• Hold at least one of the four national certifications for Sign Language Interpreters
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong understanding of Deaf/Hard of Hearing accommodations
• Experience interpreting in educational or school environments, particularly at the high school level
• Ability to adapt communication for students with Cochlear implants, hearing aids, and assistive listening devices
• Professionalism, flexibility, and solid interpersonal abilities

Role Overview & Responsibilities:

• Provide consistent ASL interpretation during classroom instructional periods (approximately 6.5 hours daily)
• Collaborate with educators and staff to facilitate effective communication
• Interpret spoken English to ASL and vice versa to ensure the student's full participation in learning and classroom activities
• Exclude lunch (30 min), arrival, and dismissal times from interpreting duties, focusing on instructional engagement
• Support the student's adjustment and inclusion post-residential program
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards at all times
