Multimedia Communications Specialist

The Ohio Education Association (OEA) is seeking a Multimedia Communications Specialist to lead the full production lifecycle of high-quality video and photographic content for use across internal and external communications platforms; use compelling audiovisual storytelling to amplify member voices, advance OEA's priorities, and promote public education and the education profession. Essential Functions: Operates professional-grade cameras, lighting, audio, and industry-standard editing equipment to create compelling photos and video content to supportOEA'scampaigns, initiatives, and communications strategies Collaborates with other communications staff to plan and execute multimedia projects for a variety of uses Serves as videographer and/or photographer on assignment at OEA events, capturing high-quality content, coordinating with internal and/or external staff to ensure effective coverage and delivery of content, and optimizing outputs for different platforms (social media, web, broadcast, print) Facilitates creative and technical aspects of the development, production, and editing of video and photo projects,including developing concepts that align with OEA's messaging and brand standards, storyboarding, scripting, coordinating on-site coverage, capturing video and photos, conducting interviews, supervising contracted video crews as needed, editing, and sharing finished products with other staff for appropriate distribution Works with local leaders, members, and OEA staff to identify and elevate compelling stories that further OEA priorities and highlights positive narratives about public education and OEA members across the state Coordinates logistics for photo and video shoots in OEA headquarters and off-site locations, including school buildings around the state Secures all required approvals and releases from members and locations, and maintains all related documentation Maintains, organizes, and updates a digital library of video and photo assets for current and future project needs Curates multimedia resources to distribute to statewide media outlets to support coverage of OEA activities and initiatives Reviews existing research to understand audience preferences and industry trends Maintains a high level of professionalism and accuracy in all communications and content Ensures multimedia content adheres to legal, copyright, accessibility (e.g. captioning), and branding guidelines Provides creative direction Makes recommendations to appropriate OEA management staff for specifications and options of hardware and software needs to fulfill their job duties Supports field operations, conferences, conventions, and/or Representative Assemblies as assigned Serves as an assigned liaison, advisor, and subject matter expert, providing guidance and expertise in designated areas as assigned by management Attends major conferences, workshops, etc. and other similar events in area of assignment and disseminates relevant information obtained at said approved professional training Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor within the job description Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, digital media, digital marketing, communications or related field or comparable professional experience Minimum 3 years’ experience in video production or related field Demonstrated understanding of digital and social media practices Demonstrated ability for scripting, editing, directing, and producing video and television programming Demonstrated experience in producing, directing, and editing video productions is preferred High proficiency in verbal and written communication. Ability to develop video content and transfer complex ideas into simple, direct prose and visuals Familiarity with a web analytics platform (such as Google Analytics) and traffic patterns as well as social media analytics platforms (such as Twitter Analytics, Facebook Insights) Thorough understanding and working knowledge of social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube and Snapchat Demonstrated ability to increase social engagement and growth through a variety of practices on media channels Ability to work independently and take initiative in a dynamic environment Ability to collaborate effectively and build relationships internally and externally High proficiency in exercising good judgment and attention to detail Ability to aid in the creative development of new digital content and securing strategic partnership with other content creators and platforms including outside vendors Ability to use video editing software to create high-quality video from assorted source materials including still photos, archival video, and raw video among others Willingness and ability to learn new skills in order to stay current on the latest digital media trends and platforms Familiarity with the organization and operation of public schools as well as with the attitudes of school staff and the activities of their representative organizations preferred Experience in public school teaching or employment and organizational leadership activities preferred Benefits: FICA Pick Up Eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision FIRST DAY PTO: 15 Holidays, Personal, Sick, Vacation, and Parental Leave Retirement: 401K, Defined Contribution, HRA, FSA Auto Allowance & additional reimbursements Casual Work Attire & FREE Parking Authority and Relationships: Is responsible to the immediate supervisor; recommends policy and procedure changes to and through the immediate supervisor; determines priorities except as established by the OEA.
