Job Title: CNC Mill Machinist Job Description
This role is responsible for setting up and operating 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC milling machines, primarily Haas and some Okuma equipment, within a standard machine shop environment. You will interpret engineering drawings and blueprints, follow routing instructions and work orders, and ensure that parts meet specifications by using a variety of precision inspection instruments. The position requires adherence to established procedures and a Quality Management System, while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work area and supporting project-related documentation.
Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC milling machines with limited oversight, using Haas and Okuma equipment and standard support machinery.
• Read and interpret blueprints, part configurations, routing instructions, work orders, and verbal directions to produce parts to specification.
• Use precision inspection instruments such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, comparators, and pin gauges to inspect parts and verify compliance with drawings.
• Manage assigned work schedules and priorities in a limited capacity to meet production requirements and deadlines.
• Assist in developing project-related work instructions and documentation to support consistent machining processes.
• Meet established goals and objectives in a timely and efficient manner.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace in accordance with shop standards.
• Follow safety procedures and use sound judgment to maintain a safe working environment around machinery and moving parts.
• Arrive on time for work, meetings, appointments, and other work-related functions as scheduled.
• Interact with team members and other departments in a professional and collaborative manner.
• Contribute to the formulation of strategic plans by providing input related to machining processes and production capabilities as requested.
• Perform other machining and shop-related tasks as assigned.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience setting up and operating 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC milling machines.
• Proficiency working with Haas CNC mills; familiarity with Okuma machines is highly beneficial.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, part configurations, routing instructions, and work orders.
• Strong understanding of CNC and conventional machining techniques and practices.
• Skill in using precision inspection tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, comparators, and pin gauges, to verify part dimensions.
• Capability to follow established procedures and work within a Quality Management System.
• Ability to manage assigned schedules and meet production goals and deadlines.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Reliability in attendance and punctuality for work and work-related activities.
• Physical ability to lift 50-75 lbs occasionally, push, pull, stand for long periods, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Mastercam software for CNC programming or toolpath generation.
• Lathe operation experience is a plus and adds versatility within the machine shop.
• Comfort working with both CNC and conventional machining equipment.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and contribute ideas to process improvements and strategic planning.

Work Environment
The role is based in a standard machine shop and manufacturing environment, where you may be exposed to loud noises, distinct industrial smells, changing temperatures, and machinery with moving parts, including cutting and deburring operations. Safety equipment and established safety standards are in place to support a safe workplace. The typical schedule runs Monday through Thursday from 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM (four 10-hour shifts), with Fridays off and overtime required on an as-needed basis. The position involves regular standing, manual handling of materials, and operation of CNC mills, with occasional lifting of 50-75 lbs, pushing, pulling, and tasks requiring manual dexterity and good visual acuity. Dress is consistent with standard machine shop attire appropriate for a hands-on, industrial setting.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Apple Valley, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
