ABOUT MANHATTAN YOUTH
Founded in 1986 by Bob Townley with the support of Lower Manhattan parents, Manhattan Youth currently serves more than 5,000 children daily through its comprehensive After-School Programs, Community Center, and Camp. As a widely respected youth development organization, Manhattan Youth helps young people develop their athletic, artistic, and academic strengths. It imparts critical values, integrity, and personal resiliency to ensure the success of the participants in school, career, and life.
After-School Programs – Children participate daily in project-based activities, homework support, and physical exercise while school is in session. Manhattan Youth’s athletic, arts, and enrichment programs are offered in 24 Manhattan middle schools funded by New York City’s Department of Youth and Community Development and seven elementary schools that are parent/for fee supported. The organization works closely with the principals and faculty of each school to complement the school day curriculum and support a culture of learning.
Community Center – The Center serves as Manhattan Youth’s hub, offering a state-of-the-art aquatic facility for swimming programs for all ages starting with infants to children, youth, families, and seniors. Additionally, classes, workshops, and open spaces are offered in art and science and for supervised play. The Center is membership based and includes after-school classes.
The Downtown Day Camp – Manhattan Youth introduces campers from age five to 12 to a wide variety of athletics, arts, and enrichment activities in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Campers are given the tools to build positive social relationships with other campers and staff. The Camp has been in operation since 1991.
At its Community Center in Lower Manhattan there are administrative offices at 120 Warren Street. Fiscal, compliance, and payroll offices are around the corner at 66 West Broadway. Manhattan Youth also maintains a middle school office at 305 Broadway.
