Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the ICU is responsible for providing expert nursing care to critically ill patients in a Level I trauma center acute care hospital. This role involves patient assessment, medication administration, treatment planning, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to manage medical, cardiac, trauma, and burn patients. The nurse must have a minimum of 2 years ICU experience and hold required certifications. Strong communication and adherence to hospital policies are essential.

Responsibilities:

Perform comprehensive patient assessments and monitor critical care patients in the ICU setting.
Administer medications and treatments according to physician orders and protocols.
Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement patient care plans.
Respond promptly to emergencies and changes in patient condition.
Document patient care activities accurately using the Cerner electronic medical record system.
Maintain compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and safety standards.
Provide education and support to patients and families regarding care and treatment plans.
Float within scope of practice to meet facility needs as required.

Required Skills & Certifications:

Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois.
Minimum of 2 years ICU nursing experience; first-time ICU nurses are not accepted.
Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and critical care skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced Level I trauma center environment.
Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

Experience in trauma, burn, medical, and cardiac ICU patient populations.
Familiarity with Cerner electronic health record system.
Prior experience working in a Magnet or teaching hospital setting.

Special Considerations:

Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (1845-0715).
Must work every other weekend.
On-call and float responsibilities may be required within scope of practice.
Return to office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days.
Parking permit required but provided at no cost.
Scrub color: Any solid color.
Hospital is a Level I trauma center and Magnet designated facility.

Scheduling:

Standard schedule consists of three 12-hour night shifts per week.
Weekend work every other weekend is required.
Guaranteed hours with client able to call off up to 36 hours per thirteen-week assignment without penalty; excess cancellations will be billed.
On-call shifts count as called-off shifts if used in lieu of cancellation.
