Middle School Math Teacher

Job Description St. Michael's Country Day School is an independent school in Newport, RI serving students from toddler (2 year olds) through grade eight. The school exists to develop courageous learners and caring citizens who are world‑ready. We are actively seeking an experienced math teacher for potential openings within the Middle School (grades 6‑8). Candidates must have a strong understanding of the academic, social, and emotional needs of middle school students and a passion for working with this age group during a critical stage of development. Ideal candidates will bring both a deep understanding of mathematics instruction and a commitment to helping students build confidence, problem‑solving skills, and conceptual understanding in a rigorous and supportive learning environment. Qualifications and Preferences an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues strong verbal and written communication skills an understanding of, appreciation for, and commitment to 21st‑century learning skills an aptitude for and commitment to meaningful technology integration in the classroom the ability to create engaging learning experiences that foster curiosity, critical thinking, and student voice experience designing and implementing effective math curriculum and instruction the ability to differentiate instruction to support a range of learners and mathematical readiness levels a commitment to helping students develop strong quantitative reasoning, mathematical fluency, and confidence as learners Experience with project‑based learning, Responsive Advisory, differentiated instruction, and student‑centered instructional practices is preferred. Experience teaching middle school math courses such as pre‑algebra, algebra, and geometry is also desirable. A master's degree and prior middle school teaching experience are preferred.
