Job Title: RN Stroke/Neuro PCU Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: PCU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours (06:45 - 19:15) Experience: Minimum of 1 year preferred License: Active Virginia State or Compact RN License required Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS Must-Have: - EPIC experience required - Neuro PCU experience - Cardiac monitoring skills - IV therapy and phlebotomy skills Description: Position involves working in a telemetry PCU specializing in stroke and neurology patients. The unit is a certified primary stroke center. The shift consists of 3 twelve-hour shifts per week. Requires weekend availability, either every other weekend or six shifts in a six-week block. Must work one holiday per 13-week contract. The nurse will be responsible for cardiac monitoring and emergency response. Experience with dysrhythmia interpretation and management is necessary. IV therapy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care are essential skills. Candidates must be comfortable administering medications, including cardiac drips (no titration). Respiratory support experience, including administering oxygen and non-invasive airway management, is required. Isolation precautions and telemetry experience across various unit types are necessary. Staffing goals aim for a patient ratio of 1:4, with typical ratios being 1:5. Requires occasional floating within the skill set to other units. The unit provides interdisciplinary support from various specialists including respiratory services and pharmacy. EPIC charting system proficiency is a must. The daily patient census averages around 25, with a total of 25 beds in the unit. Special procedures may include chest tube management and PICC line care. Candidates should be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment.
