Statistical Programming Assistant The Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference), a nonprofit organization with offices in New York, Israel, Germany and Austria, secures material compensation for Holocaust survivors around the world. Founded in 1951 by representatives of 23 major international Jewish organizations, the Claims Conference negotiates for and disburses funds to individual survivors and organizations and seeks the return of Jewish property stolen during the Holocaust. More than $95 billion in indemnification has been paid by the German government since 1952, and in 2025 ~\$530 million in compensation and ~\$960 million for survivors’ welfare needs were distributed. This is a motivated, part‑time, remote/hybrid/on‑site role that supports statistical computing in R, data validation, research data preparation, analysis and modeling on active research projects related to Holocaust survivor demography and population research. Location: New York, NY \u2022 Department: Communications \u2022 Hours: 15 hours per week \u2022 Status: Part‑time Required qualifications are formal training or current enrolment in statistics, biostatistics, econometrics, demography, public health, or a related quantitative field. The role requires proficiency in R programming (tidyverse, modelling functions, data manipulation), coursework in regression analysis and statistical inference, experience with data cleaning/ preparation, strong analytical/problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Preferred qualifications include an interest in Holocaust or Jewish studies, related research areas, experience in statistical modeling, comfort working with relational data and SQL queries, experience with longitudinal or administrative data, and a passion for applied research and population studies. Responsibilities Assist with data cleaning, restructuring, and validation. Write and maintain R code for data preparation and applied statistical modelling. Prepare datasets for modelling and analysis. Create reproducible analysis workflows (R scripts, documentation, organized outputs). Prepare summary tables, statistical outputs, and visualisations. Assist with extraction and wrangling from SQL‑based databases. What This Role Is Applied statistical programming in a research setting. Hands‑on work with real, complex datasets. Focused on inference, modelling, and careful data construction. Collaborative, mentored research experience. What This Role Is Not A machine‑learning engineering position.
