Work Hours: Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Additional hours may be required outside of normal business hours or as set forth by the demands of the position, up to and including evenings, weekends and holidays. Job Summary Presbyterian Night Shelter is seeking a Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO) to serve as a key partner to the CEO and a visible ambassador for Presbyterian Night Shelter. This leader will be responsible for growing philanthropic revenue year over year in support of the organization’s strategic priorities. The CPO will lead the development and execution of comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure and retain donors across all channels, including major gifts, foundation and corporate giving, special events, planned giving, and capital campaigns. Working closely with the CEO and Board of Directors, the CPO will advance a culture of philanthropy and be accountable for achieving ambitious short‑term and long‑term revenue goals. In addition, the CPO will provide strategic oversight of fundraising, marketing, communications, volunteer engagement, brand management, and public relations for the organization and its affiliated enterprises, ensuring alignment, consistency, and impact across all external‑facing efforts. Job Responsibilities Establish revenue goals, identify and secure necessary resources to implement overall development plan (human, financial, in‑kind), and oversee the development budget. Develop and lead strategic direction for fundraising, marketing, and community engagement to achieve organizational goals and long‑term sustainability. Lead the development of annual work plans with staff and provide clear tactics, benchmarks, and accountability measures to meet annual and project‑based fundraising, marketing, and volunteer goals. Oversee the implementation and management of development, marketing, and community engagement activities, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities. Ensure all action plans and messaging are timely, cohesive, and aligned with the organization’s overall communications strategy and brand positioning. Articulate communication needs and guide the execution of integrated internal and external marketing, communications, and development plans. Oversee and coordinate all activities related to capital and/or endowment fundraising efforts. Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of annual, major, capital, and planned gifts through strategic prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans. Personally manage a portfolio of high‑capacity donors and lead strategy for top‑tier relationships in partnership with the CEO. Ensure a high‑quality and consistent donor experience across all engagement points to strengthen retention and long‑term philanthropic support. Leverage data and analytics to evaluate performance, measure return on investment, and refine fundraising and engagement strategies. Oversee the continuous development and maintenance of accurate and useful donor records within the database to support effective relationship management and stewardship. Build, lead, and develop a high‑performing team through coaching, supervision, and ongoing professional development aligned with organizational growth goals. Work collaboratively with other chiefs and VPs on strategic and ongoing initiatives to best align organizational priorities and maximize impact. Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO on organizational growth, positioning, and long‑term sustainability. Interface with the Board of Directors and oversee the work of the Board Resource Development Committee. Interface with the Foundation Board and support strategies to market planned giving, match prospects, and execute cultivation and solicitation plans. Leverage Presbyterian Night Shelter’s relationship management approach to align prospects and donors with the CEO and key staff. Oversee and track activities to monitor and report progress to CEO, Resource Development Committee, and the Board of Directors. Work closely with the CEO to define and coordinate development activities led by the CEO. Represent the organization externally and position it as a valued community asset and a compelling opportunity for philanthropic investment. Supervisory responsibilities: Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations/Director of Development, Annual Giving Manager/Director of Major Gifts, Director of Communications, Director of Volunteer Engagement, and Development Associate Interaction: Other staff, board members, supervisory personnel, guests, donors, community members, volunteers Qualifications Education and Experience 8–10 years of experience as a leader in development or related field. Experience supervising staff and volunteers required. Experience in working with board members required. Must work effectively to manage the development work of leadership, volunteers and staff, have excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills, be detail‑oriented, highly organized, understand donor data bases and be committed to strong record keeping as well as adhere to ethical standards of fundraising and marketing principles. Valid Texas driver’s license required and proof of auto liability insurance.
