Job Title: CNC Setup Technician

Shift: 2nd shift

$20-$30/hour based on experience

4:30pm - 3am

Position Summary

The CNC Setup Technician is responsible for performing production setups, troubleshooting tooling and process issues, and maintaining advanced CNC machinery and automated cells. This role plays a critical part in continuous improvement, cycle time reduction, operator training, and ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

Setup & Machine Operations: Perform complete production setups (chucks, collets, toolbars), edit CNC programs (Fanuc controls), and conduct changeovers, repairs, and preventive maintenance across CNCs, grinders, broaches, hobs, shapers, and heat treat equipment.
Automation & Robotics: Reteach Fanuc robots and collaborate with Engineering to integrate and improve automated work cells.
Troubleshooting & Optimization: Diagnose tooling and chronic machine issues, lead cycle time reduction initiatives, and test new products (carbide inserts, workholding).
Quality & Engineering Support: Read technical blueprints/GD&T, participate in APQP/PPAP implementation, and maintain strict compliance with Quality and Environmental Management Systems.
Training & Continuous Improvement: Mentor and train operators on machining and PM tasks (including new hires), and actively submit actionable ideas for continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.
Safety & Workplace Standards: Enforce safety, housekeeping (5S), environmental protocols (spill management, recycling, labeling), and fulfill additional operational duties as assigned.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED required; technical certifications or trade school preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years of hands-on experience in production machining, CNC setup/programming, and mechanical maintenance.
Core Competencies:
- Advanced setup and process troubleshooting across multi-axis CNCs, grinders, broaches, and heat treat machinery.
- Proficiency in Fanuc CNC controls and Fanuc robotic cell instruction/reteaching.
- Strong foundation in GD&T, blueprint reading, tool geometry, technical math, and standard toolroom equipment.

Key Performance & Evaluation Criteria

Machine Efficiency: Minimization of machine downtime and successful cycle time reductions.
Cost Management: Optimization of tool cost relative to sales volume (% sales).
Operational Excellence: High dependability, task completion rate, and adherence to overtime requirements as operational needs dictate.
