Job Purpose We seek a highly skilled attorney to join TruStage’s legal team. As Counsel, you will develop legal expertise and assume primary responsibility for the legal needs of TruStage Investment Management, our internal SEC‑registered investment adviser. You will work with established attorneys, law specialists, and compliance staff on complex matters under guidance from the managing attorney, collaborating with other business units and external counsel. Responsibilities Build knowledge of the company, its processes, and customers. Manage own workload and provide informal guidance to less experienced colleagues; may lead small projects with manageable risks and resources. Solve moderate problems and propose ideas for process improvements. Approach changes with flexibility, work independently, and receive moderate guidance. Provide legal advice, opinions, and counseling to TruStage. Determine, investigate, research, and analyze all legal aspects of projects. Negotiate and draft legal documents. Direct, manage, and supervise outside counsel. Represent TruStage before governmental, legislative, and regulatory agencies and in trade association relations. Develop legal expertise and deep knowledge of TruStage. Develop and interact with key external contacts. Participate in cross‑functional teams, committees, task forces, and special projects. Develop a fundamental understanding of the financials and dynamics of the specific TruStage entities/business units you support. Translate legal advice into business‑focused terms. Job Requirements Juris Doctor degree and continuing legal education within relevant specialty areas. Authorized to practice law in Wisconsin or applicable jurisdiction. Three to five years of legal experience with overall expert or developing expert status in specific law areas. Knowledge and experience in processes and procedures necessary to represent TruStage in the judicial system, before governmental and regulatory agencies, and in legislative bodies. Knowledge and experience in TruStage operations and corporate affairs, including objectives, strategies, products, and programs. Good negotiation, analysis, reasoning, creativity, and judgment skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Project management and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to inspire trust and invite consultation. Ability to think and act quickly under significant pressure and deadlines. Sound organizational and planning skills. Professional respect and harmony with others. Technical Skills Use legal training to analyze issues, provide advice, complete assignments, and resolve problems. Demonstrate command of law and legal framework applicable to assigned subject area(s) and stay current on developments. Use technology to receive requests, recommend documents, and store records. Monitor trends related to innovation and technology in the legal profession and embrace opportunities to improve operations and service delivery. Compensation & Benefits Base Salary Range: $111,800.00 – $167,700.00. Additional benefits available to eligible employees include medical, dental, vision, employee assistance program, life insurance, disability plans, parental leave, paid time off, 401(k), and tuition reimbursement, among others. Eligible positions may also receive an annual incentive (bonus) plan.
