CNC Machinist

Location: Greater Sumner, WA
Pay: $25–$40/hr DOE

Hours: M-Fri 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM &  3:00PM – 11:30 PM With a $2 Shift Differential

We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist – Multi-Axis Lathe Setup for a growing aerospace client in the greater Sumner, WA area. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist who can independently set up, prove out, and optimize complex multi-axis CNC lathe operations.

We're looking for someone who takes ownership of every setup, understands how to improve cycle times, and can troubleshoot machining challenges while maintaining tight tolerances and high-quality standards.

 

Responsibilities

• Set up and prove out multi-axis CNC lathes, including twin-spindle, twin-turret, live tooling, Y-axis, and sub-spindle operations.
• Manage machine changeovers and implement SMED and other methods to reduce setup time.
• Develop and maintain quick-change tooling systems, preset tool kits, and standardized setup sheets.
• Collaborate with CNC programmers and process engineers to improve toolpaths, tooling, workholding, and cycle times.
• Support first-article inspections and machine aerospace components made from titanium, Inconel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
• Troubleshoot machining issues involving chatter, tool life, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy.
• Train and mentor operators and junior machinists on setups, offsets, inspection, and safe machine operation.
• Maintain 5S standards and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

 

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of CNC lathe setup experience, including at least 2 years with multi-axis mill-turn machines.
• Experience with twin-spindle and/or twin-turret equipment, such as Mazak, Okuma, Nakamura-Tome, DMG MORI, or Doosan/DN.
• Strong G-code knowledge and experience editing programs directly at the machine control.
• Familiarity with Fanuc, Mazatrol, OSP, or similar controls.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T.
• Experience using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and thread gauges.
• Demonstrated ability to improve setup times through SMED, quick-change tooling, or standardized processes.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and a commitment to quality and ownership.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Aerospace machining experience in an AS9100 environment.
• Familiarity with AS9102 First Article Inspection (FAI) and aerospace customer requirements.
• Swiss-type machining experience.
• CAM experience with Mastercam, Esprit, NX, or similar software.
• Lean or Six Sigma training.
