Playroom Coordinator – The Children's Center at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility Location: Bedford Hills, NY | Shift: Days | Status: Part-time | Salary: $18.00 per hour Reports to: Program Manager, Bedford Hills Children’s Center Schedule: 24 hours per week, weekends required Duties and Responsibilities Oversee all operations of the Playroom, ensuring that cards/games signed out are returned before closing, the playroom is neat and clean, scissors are accounted for, and a safe environment for families is maintained. Design appropriate programming and activities for mothers and children of varying ages, such as holiday‑specific crafts that accommodate a two‑year‑old and a ten‑year‑old. Interview, train and supervise inmate staff and volunteers as needed. Manage and order supplies. Ensure program resources and budget are efficiently used; work within budget parameters for supplies, equipment and events. Chaperone unaccompanied children to and from the hospitality center as well as the FRP trailer site when necessary. Oversee visits and act as a liaison with families, being aware of any behavioral issues, foul language or difficulties a mother may face and notifying the Social Worker. Maintain and submit accurate, thorough and timely data, including attendance numbers and Birthday Nook numbers on a monthly and quarterly basis to the Program Director. Collaborate with the Program Manager to coordinate upcoming visits and other Children’s Center staff as needed and requested by the Program Director. Liaise with the Parenting Education supervisor to coordinate parenting education opportunities for women participating in visitation programs. Comply with all prison procedures, processes and requirements, including all security regulations and PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) requirements. Specifications for Education High School or GED. Specifications for Experience and Training Experience working with children. Experience working in a prison setting preferred. Ability to work cooperatively with DOCCS and staff. Requirements The organization requires employees be fully vaccinated against COVID‑19. Successful completion of a background check conducted by the Department of Corrections & Community Supervision. Work Schedule Flexibility to work the following 28‑hour/week schedule. Hours are subject to change based on business needs. Wednesday: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm Thursday: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm Friday: 10:00 am – 3:00 pm Saturday: 8:45 am – 3:30 pm Sunday: 8:45 am – 3:00 pm Will be expected to work the following holiday schedule: Labor Day, Memorial Day, Columbus Day and Martin Luther King Day.
