Job Purpose Obtain blood specimens from patients of all ages using venipuncture and capillary collection methods, process orders and specimens according to laboratory policies, and maintain compliance and confidentiality while promoting the organization’s mission and philosophy. Essential Functions Collect laboratory specimens from patients of all ages, including those with infectious diseases. Process laboratory orders and specimens according to protocol. Demonstrate appropriate telephone etiquette. Utilize computer information systems. Adhere to organizational and governmental standards, rules, and regulations. Perform clerical duties. Promote professional customer service. Adhere to all company policies, including OSHA, HIPAA, compliance, and Code of Conduct. Maintain regular and dependable attendance. Follow core competencies set forth by the Company. Work holiday shift(s) as required by Company policy. Other Duties and Responsibilities Prioritize workload to efficiently provide providers with necessary information. Perform specimen collection according to requirements and standard operating procedures. Demonstrate knowledge of safety collection devices and follow universal precautions. Adhere to patient confidentiality policy. Initiate assistance to co‑workers and customers as needed. Comply with laboratory ordering and billing compliance. Assist with training new employees/students. Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and assist with storage. Maintain cleanliness of laboratory. Report complaints/problems to supervisor or person in charge. May be required to flex to other clinics. Perform waived testing and resulting tasks with supervisory discretion. Check laboratory appointment schedule daily for orders. Ensure draw area is restocked and sharps containers/biohazard trash containers are emptied. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or GED equivalent. Phlebotomy class preferred. Either completion of a phlebotomy class or at least one year of phlebotomy experience is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of laboratory environment. Knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent customer service skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem‑solving skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to engage others, listen and adapt responses to meet their needs. Ability to align own actions with those of other team members committed to common goals. Excellent computer and keyboarding skills, including familiarity with Windows. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage competing priorities. Ability to perform job duties professionally at all times. Ability to understand, recall, and communicate factual information. Ability to apply oral and/or written instructions or other information. Ability to organize thoughts and ideas into understandable terminology. Ability to apply common sense in performing job. Certificate / License Phlebotomy certification preferred.
