Principal Small UAS (sUAS) Mechanical EngineerOverview: Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Principal Small UAS (sUAS) Mechanical Engineer to join our team at Hurlburt Field, Florida. Qualified candidates must be U.S. citizens with a TS/SCI clearance. The successful candidate will provide mechanical engineering expertise on a multidisciplinary team responsible for developing, integrating, and transitioning multiple different technologies for the Government Team Lead. In addition, the individual will apply MIL-HDBK-516 criteria to subsystem design and test, have a working knowledge of military airworthiness process, understand and apply compliance mapping and provide systems engineering evaluation, verification and validation of subsystems. Anticipate up to 15% travel, with surge periods of greater travel, primarily in CONUS.You will be a great fit for this role if:You have a passion for aerospace, defense, special operations, and advanced technologies.You understand the urgent need to modernize our defense systems and give our warfighters the best possible tools.Paying attention to detail and providing excellent customer service in a professional environment is a skill you excel at.You are passionate about continuous learning and growth, and you seek opportunities to challenge yourself.You are driven to make a meaningful impact through your work.Responsibilities:Participate in key engineering integration meetings:Milestone design and technical reviewsTeam Lead MeetingsMaterial Improvement Program Review BoardsEngineering and Crew Station Working GroupsLead System Engineer Technical EngagementsIntegrated Test Team MeetingsSupport on-aircraft engineering integration activitiesOn-aircraft integration and engineering test build eventsKnock down administrative and engineering barriersRaise issues to technical and programmatic POCs and/or leadership for decision/actionPlan and schedule resources to support integration and testReport on status of ongoing integration and testUnderstanding of airworthiness criteria.Conduct and support root cause analysis with enterprise stakeholdersContribute to systems engineering activities including requirements definition, architecture development, integration, and verification.Participate in platform integration and testing and verification of subsystems for performance and functionality.Lead and support Government and industry teams through technical planning, design reviews, test reviews, and technical assessments.Develop and deliver technical briefings to a wide range of audiences, including senior technical and leadership stakeholders.Collaborate with U.S. Government and industry partner organizations to support joint mission capability development.Promote efficiency, agility, and traceability in fast-paced engineering environments.Lead integration of new, legacy, and GOTs hardware and software.Manage system requirements and derived requirements to ensure the delivery of systems compatible with defined system architectures.Support the resolution of action items from Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings, design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews that require cross-discipline coordination.Develop the methods, processes, and evaluation criteria by which the systems, subsystems, and work products are verified against their requirements.Required Qualifications:Exceptional integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to MTSI's core values.Minimum 8+ years of industry or government experience demonstrating and practicing knowledge, skills, and abilities in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.Experience with a mix of core mechanical engineering fundamentals, to include:Mechanical design (modeling, tolerance analysis, mechanism design, composite structures)Structural analysis (static/dynamic loading, fatigue, shock/vibe, failure analysis)Knowledge of lightweight aircraft structures (payload mounts, structural reinforcement)Basic aerodynamic analysis (external payload drag)Mechanical integration (flight controllers, batteries, antennas, payloads, sensors, weight distribution and center of gravity, SWaP-C optimizationsMechanical documentationRapid prototyping and iterative hardware developmentTesting, evaluating, and reporting to include hardware-in-the-loop, developmental test, and operational testProven experience in aviation system design, development, integration, and test.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience briefing technical content to senior leadership.Strong customer service skills; being able to work with personnel across multiple disciplines and organizations.Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently.Ability to work well in a cross-disciplinary team with other engineers and military operators.Ability to apply expert knowledge and proactively work independently.Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, "tip of the spear" environment.Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt to evolving mission and technical requirements.Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.Desired Qualifications:Integration of weapons systems, sensor, and C2 capabilities, including cross-platform interoperability.Education Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering.Master's degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering, desired.Clearance Requirements:US Citizenship.Must possess an active DoD Top Secret Clearance with SAP and SCI eligibility.
