As a Pharmacy Technician at Michigan Medicine, you will work within a highly collaborative team that includes Pharmacists, Technicians, and other medical professionals. We provide all of our Pharmacy Technicians with a comprehensive, hands-on training to ensure you feel confident in performing your day-to-day responsibilities. Once training is complete, you will be able to prepare sterile IV products, restock automated dispensing cabinets, and dispense solid oral dosage forms for patients visiting the various infusion sites.

General Pharmacy Technician duties may include:

• Perform activities relating to or supporting the preparation, compounding, processing, and delivery of medications and pharmaceutical supplies under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervisor or resident
• Assist in the retrieving/filing medication orders from electronic systems
• Assist in general pharmacy cleaning/maintenance/stocking
• Prepare investigational drugs per research protocols
• Triage telephone inquiries
• Assist with training of staff

Ability to perform a wide range of physical activity: lifting, pulling, bending, manual dexterity movements. Ability to follow oral and written instructions, prioritize with accuracy and dependability: Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English.

Pharmacy Technician Associate:

• High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician License on or before hire date, verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs
• Proficient communication, computer and basic mathematical skills are necessary.
• Must be able to prioritize with accuracy and dependability.

Pharmacy Technician Intermediate/Senior:

• Associate level requirements, plus additional relevant experience required to be eligible.

At least one year of technician experience or completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program is highly desirable. Basic algebra including performing pharmacy calculations is also highly desired.

The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a Technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support Technicians to become certified and licensed.

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment.

This is a full-time position. Hours depend on the infusion center operational hours. Shifts start as early as 6am and end as late as 8pm. Weekends also must be worked on a rotational basis. Rotation among work locations may occur. The locations for which employee rotate through include: Brighton Center for Specialty Care, Childrens and Womens Infusion Center, East Ann Arbor Health Center, Northville Health Center, Taubman Center, Rogel Cancer Center, West Ann Arbor Health Center.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
