Director of Health & Wellness
$170k - $194kSisters of St. Joseph Brentwood
About the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph Brentwood For more than 375 years, the Sisters of St. Joseph have lived a mission rooted in love, unity, and service – guided by Catholic social teaching and a deep commitment to caring for the "dear neighbor," a phrase they use to describe every person they encounter, without distinction. Founded in 1650 in Le Puy, France and established in Brentwood, New York in 1896, the Congregation has long been a force for good – women who were pioneers in their time, building institutions and expanding access to education, healthcare, and social services for those most in need. Across generations, the Sisters have opened and staffed schools, founded hospitals and clinics, and led efforts advancing justice and human dignity. Their impact extends far beyond Long Island, reaching communities across the United States and internationally. Today, that legacy lives on through a wide network of ministries and partnerships, including four all‑girls Catholic academies, immigration services, ecological initiatives, spiritual formation programs, and community‑based organizations serving vulnerable populations. The Brentwood campus, spanning more than 200 acres, remains a powerful expression of this mission, home to a dynamic ecosystem of ministries, partners, and programs dedicated to service and community impact. Today, the Congregation enters a new and meaningful chapter that reflects the continued evolution of its mission. In addition to their active ministries, the Sisters have always cared for one another, providing thoughtful and compassionate support across all stages of life. As the needs of the community evolve, the Congregation is taking an intentional step to further strengthen and coordinate this care – ensuring it remains holistic, responsive, and aligned with their values. Approximately 250 Sisters, many of whom have served as educators, healthcare leaders, and advocates, now reside across a continuum of settings including independent living, assisted living, convent residences, and skilled nursing environments throughout Brentwood, the greater New York region, and Puerto Rico. Supported by a dedicated network of lay professionals, their lives remain grounded in community, purpose, and spiritual practice. While the form of their ministry continues to evolve, their purpose endures – bringing compassion, wisdom, and quiet strength to a changing world, and ensuring that their mission of unity, service, and love continues to shape lives for generations to come. For more information, visit Position Summary: Senior Director of Health & Wellness The Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph Brentwood seeks a Senior Director of Health & Wellness to lead and unify the teams responsible for the care and wellness of approximately 250 Sisters across a continuum of living environments. Reporting to and in partnership with the President and Leadership Council, the Director will guide both the direction of care and the professionals who deliver it, ensuring that each Sister is supported to continue living her mission with dignity and purpose. This Director will oversee and strengthen the full continuum of care – attending to the physical, emotional, and social well‑being of each Sister. This includes guiding a range of services such as healthcare, nutrition, mental health support, transportation, and recreation, ensuring a coordinated and holistic approach to well‑being. The Director is expected to be attuned to best practices in aging, gerontology, and dementia care, while introducing thoughtful, innovative approaches that enhance quality of life and promote proactive wellness. This will require close collaboration with the Congregation Leadership Council so that the care provided is unified and complete. Bringing deep expertise in healthcare administration, the Director will establish structure, accountability, and operational clarity across a complex and evolving care environment. They will unify teams, strengthen communication, and implement systems that ensure consistent, high‑quality care delivery. This includes overseeing staffing models, clarifying roles and reporting lines, managing departmental resources and budgets, and navigating key areas such as insurance, benefits, and care access. Key Responsibilities Strategic Wellness Planning: Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive health and wellness strategy for an aging congregation, addressing current needs while thoughtfully planning for future phases of life and care, in alignment with Congregational Leadership priorities. Interdisciplinary Team Oversight: Direct and oversee an interdisciplinary team including nurses, social workers, therapists, dieticians, transportation coordinator, and Living With Assistance administrators, ensuring alignment, accountability, and high‑quality care delivery; assess evolving care needs and recommend adjustments to staffing models, roles, and team structure to ensure the right level and mix of support across the continuum. Continuum of Care Design & Management: Design, implement, and continuously improve a coordinated care model across independent living, convent‑based residences, assisted living, and skilled nursing environments, establishing consistent standards, aligned service delivery, and clear pathways of care. Care Transitions & Placement Decisions: Guide care planning and decision‑making in partnership with the President, Sisters, and care teams in the assessment and decision‑making process for individual Sisters as care needs evolve, guiding transitions and placement across levels of care with clinical judgment, compassion, and respect for individual preferences; ensure that decisions reflect a holistic perspective, incorporating input across physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of care. Program Innovation & Evaluation: Lead the design, evaluation, and continuous improvement of health and wellness programs, informed by leading practices in aging populations, including cognitive health, dementia care, aging in place, and holistic wellness; utilize data, outcomes, and metrics to ensure effectiveness, quality, and sustainability. Systems & Process Development: Design and implement structures, processes, clear workflows, and communication systems that ensure continuity and alignment of care across locations. Organizational Alignment: Establish clear roles, reporting structures, and accountability across care teams; foster a unified, coordinated model across locations and service environments with shared standards, consistent expectations, and strong collaboration. Healthcare Administration: Oversee healthcare operations, including insurance coordination, external providers, and regulatory compliance; provide leadership and guidance to staff managing healthcare billing, Medicare and Social Security processes, and services supporting aging populations, ensuring consistency and effectiveness across care delivery. Financial & Operational Stewardship: Create and manage budgets, evaluate care models and outcomes, and partner with the Leadership Council and Chief Operating Officer to ensure financially sustainable, high‑quality care delivery; assess cost‑effectiveness and resource allocation to support long‑term care planning. Leadership & Competency Expectations The Senior Director of Health & Wellness will be a relational, mission‑centered steward who brings both compassion and structure to a complex care environment, ensuring the Sisters are supported with dignity, consistency, and thoughtful oversight. Qualifications Master's degree required in healthcare administration, public health, social work, gerontology, any related medical field, or other advanced relevant degrees. Demonstrated experience in healthcare administration within complex care environments, with a strong understanding of systems, operations, and care delivery for aging populations. Experience working with aging populations, including dementia and cognitive care, with a strong understanding of holistic care models that support physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and spiritual well‑being, as well as loss, grief, and functional decline. Proven ability to design and implement systems, structures, and processes that support coordinated, high‑quality care across multiple settings. Experience leading and unifying interdisciplinary teams, including clinical, social service, and wellness professionals. Familiarity with healthcare operations, including Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, insurance coordination, regulatory compliance, and financial oversight (budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning). While Catholic faith is not required, a genuine respect for and openness to understanding Catholic religious life and faith‑based community is essential. Location, Compensation & Benefits This role is based in New York City, with primary office locations in Brentwood and Queens. The position requires regular travel throughout the greater New York region, including Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk counties, to visit Sisters and observe care delivery in practice. Occasional travel to Puerto Rico will also be required. The salary range is $170,000 – $194,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Benefits include multiple medical plan options, dental and vision insurance, life and disability coverage, and FSAs for health, dependent care, and commuter expenses. Employees also receive a 403(b) retirement plan with employer match, generous paid time off including vacation, sick leave, personal days, and holidays, as well as access to an Employee Assistance Program, wellness resources, and professional development opportunities. #J-18808-Ljbffr Sisters of St. Joseph Brentwood
