Senior Investment Data Modeler (Aladdin & Snowflake)

Location: Newark, NJ (Hybrid – 2 to 3 days onsite per week) Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Modeler to spearhead data architecture and cloud modernization initiatives for a premier financial services client. This role is highly specialized, sitting at the crossroads of sophisticated investment data, enterprise cloud infrastructure, and the BlackRock Aladdin ecosystem. The ideal candidate will design, optimize, and scale robust data models within a Snowflake environment, ensuring that complex portfolio, risk, and fixed‑income datasets are seamlessly structured for downstream analytics, reporting, and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities Enterprise Data Modeling: Architect conceptual, logical, and physical data models (utilizing 3NF, Star Schema, and Data Vault methodologies) tailored for core investment banking domains, including fixed income, portfolio management, corporate actions, and risk analytics. Aladdin Integration: Collaborate with platform teams to ingest, map, and harmonize data pipelines from the BlackRock Aladdin ecosystem (including Aladdin Data Cloud and APIs) into enterprise data structures. Snowflake Optimization: Design and implement high‑performing schemas within Snowflake. Drive query performance tuning, establish clustering strategies, and implement secure role‑based access controls (RBAC). Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with Data Engineers, Business Analysts, and BI teams (Power BI/Tableau) to translate complex financial business requirements into scalable, clean data structures. Data Governance & Documentation: Author and maintain comprehensive data dictionaries, Entity‑Relationship Diagrams (ERDs), and metadata registries. Support data lineage tracking and data quality frameworks. Agile Delivery: Actively participate in Agile/Scrum cycles, contributing to sprint planning, technical reviews, and story grooming. Required Technical Skills & Qualifications Experience: 8+ years of dedicated data modeling experience, explicitly within the Financial Services or Investment Management sectors (strong understanding of equities, fixed income, derivatives, etc.). Core Systems: Proven, hands‑on experience working with the BlackRock Aladdin platform and its underlying data structures/APIs. Cloud Platform: Advanced proficiency in Snowflake, including architecture design, data sharing, and performance optimization. Modeling Tools: Expert‑level command of enterprise modeling tools such as Erwin, ER/Studio, or SQLDBM. Technical Language: Exceptional SQL skills for writing complex analytical queries, data validation scripts, and stored procedures. Pipeline Exposure: Familiarity with modern ETL/ELT pipelines and transformation workflows (e.g., dbt, Informatica). Soft Skills: Strong communication skills with a proven ability to explain complex technical data models to non‑technical business stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have) Active Snowflake SnowPro Certification. Hands‑on experience using dbt (data build tool) for data transformation inside Snowflake. Familiarity with Python for basic data profiling and task automation. Knowledge of industry‑standard data governance frameworks such as CDMC or DAMA DMBOK.
