SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST CERTIFIED

Job Overview Certified Surgical Technologist – a role ensuring optimal peri‑operative care by assisting surgeons, gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, and patients throughout surgical procedures. Responsibilities Establishes and maintains a sterile field and ensures the team maintains a sterile environment. Correctly and safely passes instruments to the clinician. Participates in surgical counts (sponges, needles, and instruments) per policy. Communicates with surgeons, gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, other necessary staff, and patients to facilitate continuity of care. Follows policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and patient safety goals. Participates in the nursing process for patients of all ages served. Participates in unit educational activities. Qualifications Education: High‑school graduate or equivalent required. Must have successfully completed an accredited surgical technologist training program and hold a current credential as a certified surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor. Alternatively, a completed surgical technology training program during service in any branch of the U.S. armed forces satisfies this requirement. Experience: None. Licensure, Certification, and Registration: Certification in Surgical Technology required. LPN licensure required for grandfathered employees. Must obtain and/or maintain registration with the VA Department of Health Professions. Other Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of instrumentation; ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for patients of all ages. Must understand growth and development principles across the lifespan and apply this knowledge to meet individual patient needs in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Compensation Range: $25.77 – $38.66 per hour. (Does not include benefits or pension plan.)
