Ophthalmic Technician

Ophthalmic TechnicianUPMC is hiring an Ophthalmic Technician to support Comprehensive Eye Service at UPMC Vision Institute, located at 1622 Locust Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. This position works Monday through Friday during daylight hours between 7:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., with start times varying based on clinic schedules. The Ophthalmic Technician will play a key role in delivering high-quality patient care by conducting patient workups, diagnostic testing, and assisting providers during a variety of eye care visits, including follow-ups from the walk-in clinic, diabetic eye exams, comprehensive eye exams, and cataract evaluations. Travel to other locations is extremely limited (less than 5%); however, flexibility to support other departments within the building as needed is required. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced ophthalmology environment and providing exceptional patient care across a diverse patient population.Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the Ophthalmic Technician Career Ladder, based on their individual experience and education.Responsibilities:History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family.Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuityLensometry: automated and manualPupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate.Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fieldsOcular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus.Refractometry: auto-refractor, manifest refractions, transposing scripts from + to -Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each.Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare testAngle assessment & dilation of pupils.Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions.Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day.Travel to other clinical sites.Requirements:High school diploma or equivalent is required.Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred.Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred.Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Valid CPR certificationUPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran
