Staff Software Engineer, Backend

To support the Payments team within the Platform organization, the full-time Staff Software Engineer, Backend will own the architecture and technical direction of high-volume payment systems, ensuring reliability and scalability while collaborating cross-functionally to deliver effective solutions. Key responsibilities Own the multi-year technical strategy and architecture for the Payments platform, defining the roadmap for scaling integrations and funds-flow systems globally Build and evolve distributed systems for processing high-volume payment traffic, focusing on fault isolation and observability Drive engineering quality by establishing coding standards and shared frameworks that enhance technical excellence across the Payments team Required qualifications 8+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in building payment systems or high-volume transactional platforms Proven track record of architecting fault-tolerant distributed systems at scale, processing significant transaction volumes Experience leading platform-building efforts to create coherent, reusable systems and APIs Demonstrated ability to own production reliability and lead high-severity incident responses History of influencing technical direction across teams without direct authority
