Carbon Finance Associate, Global Carbon Markets

Overview The Carbon Finance Associate will sit in The Nature Conservancy’s Impact Finance and Markets Division, working within the Global Carbon Markets team and closely with local business units on project finance activities for Natural Climate Solutions (NCS). This two‑year term position reports to the Carbon Finance Director and may be extended based on performance and funding availability. Location is flexible for countries where TNC has existing offices. Responsibilities Develop financial models and viability assessments for NCS carbon projects and support the Global Carbon Market’s technical team with feasibility studies and project design documentation. Develop FP&A tools for the Carbon Markets Team, TNC business units and project partners. Support the creation of equitable benefit‑sharing arrangements at the project level, including fair and inclusive profit‑sharing mechanisms, community compensation and incentive payment schemes, and financial planning for long‑term sustainable livelihood transition. Stay up to date on carbon market trends, including carbon credit prices and emerging offtake and investment opportunities for NCS projects. Travel and work flexible hours as needed. Act independently within broad program goals, prioritising tasks without specific instructions and exercising independent judgment to identify and solve problems. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field and four (4) years of related experience or an equivalent combination. Experience in project finance with advanced financial modelling skills. Strong critical thinking, research, and analysis skills, including the ability to assess a large set of opportunities and distill complex issues into strategic decisions, structured frameworks, and cohesive action plans. Fluency in English with excellent written and oral communication skills. Desired Qualifications Familiarity and knowledge of carbon market standards such as Climate Community and Biodiversity Standard, PlanVivo, and Verified Carbon Standard, and experience working on NCS carbon project development. Multi‑lingual skills and/or multi‑cultural experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Compensation and Benefits Salaries are based on the country of employment. For U.S. based applicants, the starting base salary range is approximately $90,000–$110,000 per year, adjusted for location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. For applicants outside the U.S., pay ranges will be set in local currency and based on the local labor market. Actual pay will reflect a variety of factors including qualifications and experience.
