This position is located in Tacoma, Washington, and is represented by the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE). Legal Office Assistant salary range 40: $43,836 - $58,392 Annually (Effective 7/1/2026) The base pay offered will take into account internal equity and may vary depending on the preferred candidate’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The following stipends may apply based on position requirements: Incumbents assigned to a position designated as requiring dual language skills will receive a 5% Dual Language Requirement Pay stipend. About the Tacoma General Services Section The Tacoma Division offers a collaborative, collegial, and supportive environment that fosters the success of its members. The Tacoma Division is comprised of 46 attorneys and 57 professional staff. The division is the “face of the AGO” in Pierce and Kitsap counties. This division provides a wide variety of legal services for a number of different client agencies, including the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), Department of Social & Health Services (DSHS), Department of Labor & Industries (L&I), Employment Security Department (ESD), and Department of Licensing (DOL). Employees in the Tacoma office also handle tort matters on behalf of various state agencies. The Division’s range of legal work is broad, challenging, and complex. Division members are given the tools to excel professionally. What does a Legal Office Assistant do? The Legal Office Assistant position is a great place to begin your career in the legal field at the AGO. In a legal setting and under close supervision, this position independently performs a variety of general clerical tasks and basic technical legal assignments. Duties include but are not limited to: Monitor electronic mailboxes per division protocols and policies. Open, process, and route all incoming mail and legal messenger deliveries and mail. Cover front desk duties, such as answering phone calls, helping the public, scheduling conference rooms, handling large print projects, etc. Log, prepare, and maintain record of invoices. Cleans state fleet vehicles to ensure they remain safe, clean, and ready for agency use. Arrange usage and maintenance of Division’s state vehicle fleet. Manage the Division’s conference rooms, including but not limited to, scheduling use of the rooms, setting up rooms, cleaning rooms, and providing basic technical troubleshooting for technology in the rooms. Performs routine cleaning and maintenance of kitchen and lunchroom areas, workrooms, the General Services (GSE) production and reception areas, including scheduled weekly cleaning as well as pre/post-meeting and pre/post-event cleanup. Maintain the Division’s project rooms, including but not limited to, restocking supplies, ensuring a clean workspace, refilling printers, and changing printer toner. Completes assigned projects, such as large print jobs, exhibit organization, or other various projects. Maintains the Division’s inventory and orders new supplies. Participates in office operations and committee activities by serving on safety and other workplace committees; assists with planning, setup, support, and breakdown of agency meetings and special events; and participates in emergency drills, exercises, and other office preparedness activities. Deliver documents to Pierce and Kitsap County courthouses. Required Qualifications Option 1: High School diploma or equivalent and two years of clerical experience including a minimum of six months of experience in a legal office environment. Option 2: One year of legal office experience. Option 3: A combination of two years of college education and/or relevant experience. Option 4: A two-year degree in Legal Secretary Studies, Paralegal studies or related field of study.
