Accountant - Mandan/Dickinson

Position Summary This position is expected to coordinate and perform financial accounting and reporting functions for both the Mandan Refinery and Dickinson Renewable Fuels facility. The role involves assisting accountants and business partners in resolving day‑to‑day issues, interacting with refinery personnel, other refinery accounting departments, and MPC Accounting. While the preferred work location is either Mandan, ND or Dickinson, ND, other MPC Refining locations may also be considered. Key Responsibilities Prepare monthly financial entries to properly account for refinery expenses and other financial activity. Participate in monthly financial closeout activities for assigned areas of responsibility, including month‑end account reconciliations and execution of SOX controls. Analyze actual results and prepare reports as necessary for assigned areas of responsibility. Participate in the development of the refinery’s annual expense budget and monthly updates, and analyze actual versus budgeted expenditures. Assist in implementing new procedures, accounting systems, or financial applications as they arise. Assist in special projects assigned and provide back‑up for other accounting functions as required. Participate in the completion of the biennial Solomon Benchmarking Survey. Communicate effectively with accounting department personnel, operational department personnel, various levels of management, and other MPC locations. Demonstrate advanced proficiency in systems/tools, including Excel and SAP. Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Accounting degree preferred). Two (2) years of Accounting/Finance experience required. Previous MPC Refinery Accounting experience highly preferred. Experience working with a large ERP system preferred. Intermediate experience in Microsoft Excel preferred. Experience with Business Intelligence tools (Power BI) a plus. Periodic travel between the two primary locations may be required. Pay range: $70,400 – $121,200 per year.
