Position Overview

The School Sign Language Interpreter will facilitate communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their teachers, peers, and other school personnel. This professional plays a critical role in supporting student access to instruction, participation in classroom activities, and overall educational success. The interpreter will work collaboratively with educational teams to promote an inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

• Meet Kansas requirements for Sign Language Interpreters in educational setting 

• Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment 3.5 or better (EIPA) score or equivalent qualifications as required by district or state regulations
• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Previous school-based experience preferred
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism

Job Responsibilities

• Provide interpreting services during classroom instruction and school-related activities
• Facilitate effective communication between students and staff
• Interpret spoken language into ASL and ASL into spoken language
• Support student participation in academic and extracurricular activities
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
• Attend meetings and training sessions as required
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with district policies
