Summary/Primary Role:

The Medical Assistant III is an advanced-level, certified Medical Assistant with specialty training, demonstrated technical competency, and the ability to support complex clinical workflows. This role performs advanced procedures, supports specialty diagnostics, troubleshoots clinical operations, and serves as a resource for clinical staff. The Medical Assistant III works with minimal supervision and plays a critical role in high-acuity or procedure-heavy departments.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Perform all Medical Assistant I and II functions at an advanced competency level.

• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot specialized clinical equipment; perform quality control checks as required.

• Complete advanced specimen handling, labeling, processing, and diagnostic testing protocols with strict accuracy.

• Prepare patients for high-acuity or technical procedures, ensuring understanding, comfort, and safety.

• Provide detailed instructions and education related to specialty procedures, preparation, and follow-up care.

• Serve as a point-of-resource for patients regarding complex clinical workflows or diagnostic processes.

• Coordinate specialty referrals, prior authorizations, and follow-up diagnostic testing where appropriate.

• Maintain detailed documentation within the electronic health record (EHR), including procedure notes, diagnostic results, and specialty-specific workflows.

• Assist with inventory and ordering of specialty supplies, equipment, and instruments.

• Ensure specialty procedure rooms, equipment, and instruments are properly prepared and maintained.

• Serve as a technical resource for other Medical Assistants and clinical staff.

• Assist with onboarding, competency development, and informal training of MA I and MA II staff.

• Participate in workflow optimization efforts and provide input to improve clinical efficiency and patient experience.

• Adhere to all HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, and safety protocols.

• Follow established procedures for sterilization, equipment safety, and exposure control.

• Ensure all specialty procedures meet regulatory and accreditation standards.

• All other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, CCMA) required from an accredited program or at least five (5) years of clinical experience in lieu of certification.

• Minimum of seven (7) years of clinical experience required.

• Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred.

• Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with patients and staff.

• Demonstrated ability to learn and perform clinical tasks safely and accurately.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical setting while maintaining attention to detail.

• Basic proficiency with computers and electronic health record systems preferred.

Phlebotomy Certified:

Employees who hold a valid phlebotomy certification and perform phlebotomy duties as part of their role are eligible to receive a $1.00 per hour Phlebotomy Differential. This differential applies to all eligible hours worked while the employee is actively performing duties that require phlebotomy skills. Certification must be maintained and kept current to qualify for the differential.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility but may function as an advanced clinical resource and assist with skill development, training, and mentoring of MA I and MA II staff.

Expected Hours of Work:

An Employee must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status for benefits purposes, however the expectations of the position will require an average of forty (40) hours with overtime required as scheduled. Non-exempt employees are eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws, while exempt employees may be required to work additional hours as necessary to fulfill their job responsibilities. Overtime requirements will be determined based on the operational needs of the organization.

The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future. When determining an employee’s base salary and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, and internal equity). Premier Medical Group also offers a comprehensive set of benefits to compliment the base salary. The base hourly rate range for this position is $25.00-$27.50.

Travel Requirements:

Employees may be required to float to other Premier Medical Group locations based on operational needs. When assigned to work outside of the employee’s primary location, a $1.00 per hour Float Differential will be applied for all eligible hours worked.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a clinical outpatient setting and routinely involves direct interaction with patients, providers, and clinical staff. The work environment may involve exposure to infectious disease, bodily fluids, medical equipment, cleaning agents, and varying patient conditions. Standard precautions, PPE, and adherence to safety protocols are required at all times.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described below are representative of those necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of this role:

• This is a safety-sensitive position, requiring alertness, sound judgment, and adherence to patient safety standards at all times.

• Regularly required to stand, walk, and move between exam rooms throughout the day.

• Frequent bending, reaching, and lifting or moving supplies and equipment up to 25 pounds; occasional assistance with patient positioning may be required.

• Ability to use hands for clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, operating medical equipment, and performing procedures within scope.

• Ability to communicate clearly in person, by phone, and through electronic systems.
