Join our dynamic AWS team and become a critical guardian of global cloud infrastructure! You'll play a pivotal role in maintaining the heartbeat of the world's most innovative technology platform, ensuring seamless data center operations that power millions of businesses and services worldwide. Data Center Technician position involves in-depth hardware and network diagnostics followed by physical repair as well as participating in an on-call rotation. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we're the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we're looking for talented people who want to help. You'll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you'll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. This is a night shift/overnight role: It will require working overnight hours between approximately 6pm-8am. Work schedule may not be a standard 40hr work week. Specific days and hours may vary depending on specific site and/or schedule needs.

Key job responsibilities include performing server rack installations, hardware break-fix on various components, troubleshooting network issues, responding to operational incidents that impact service availability, and carrying out routine network, server hardware, and operating system repairs to contribute to the overall availability of AWS services. You will also serve as a primary contact point for both internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors. Additionally, you will perform on-call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change management activities. You will contribute to documentation and process improvement initiatives based on your analysis of operational issues and help to interview, train, and onboard new team members.

Physical requirements include lifting and moving material up to 40 pounds each, working in cramped and/or elevated locations, bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching, standing and walking for up to 8+ hours a day, ascending and descending ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation, and working in an industrial environment. Work shifts longer than 8 hours to support 24/7 operations (covering both night and day shifts). This role supports data centers in various operational stages. The position may be assigned to a facility still under development, which could require travel to established locations for training until your designated site becomes fully operational.

Essential requirements include the ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed and willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational. Candidates must be able to travel (over 50 miles) or commute (less than 50 miles) to active data center sites as required by business needs.

A day in the life of our Data Center Technician professionals includes taking ownership of technical issues brought by their customer base, engaging other teams when needed to drive resolution, showing a strong aptitude for troubleshooting and problem solving, solving problems at their root and stepping back to understand the broader context, maintaining service level agreements through the implementation of proactive issue detection and reporting, being biased to act in the absence of direction or support, and improving effectiveness through process innovation. You will be required to work shift work that will include days/nights/weekends/holidays.

Basic qualifications include 2+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting experience, or experience related IT, 2+ years of computer layer 1/2 networking (including troubleshooting and repair) experience, and a work flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.

Preferred qualifications include knowledge of network design, protocols and troubleshooting, knowledge of Linux/Unix Administration, a bachelor's degree in an IT-related field (e.g., Computer Science, Network Engineering), or experience in professional or military IT-related roles, and experience in a data center or other critical environment.
