Principal Scientist I, Biologics Drug Product Development

AbbVie seeks an experienced Principal Scientist I to lead biologics drug product formulation and process development within its Development Sciences division. The role involves cross-functional collaboration on drug product strategy, scale-up, technology transfer, and regulatory support for proteins, conjugates, peptides, and genetic medicine platforms.

Responsibilities

• Represent Bio DPD in cross-functional Product Presentation and Device Strategy and CMC teams
• Lead design and execution of biologics drug product formulation, process development, and robustness studies
• Support scale-up and technology transfer activities to internal and external manufacturing sites
• Communicate development plans, risks, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders and management
• Initiate scientific initiatives to enhance capabilities, platforms, and business processes

Requirements

• BS, MS, or PhD in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field
• 14+ years (Bachelor's), 12+ years (Master's), or 6+ years (PhD) of relevant industry experience
• Expertise in biologics or genetic medicine drug product process development and characterization
• Hands-on experience with sterile manufacturing operations: freeze-thaw, lyophilization, filtration, filling, compounding
• Proven track record leading drug product development as functional lead in cross-functional teams
• Ability to solve critical scientific problems and drive innovation
