Position Summary The Departmentof Emergency Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking afull time Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN). The APRN will work at our OSF Little Company of Mary site where we are looking to complete an alreadyexcellent group of APPs and physicians working together. The hospital islocated in Evergreen Park on the south side of Chicago,addressing the needs ofan underserved population. The Emergency Department is newly renovatedand also serves as a core site for the UIC Emergency Medicine Residency. The APRN will work at our OSF Little Company of Mary site providing patient care within scope of practice. Flexibility for day and evening shift work in Emergency Department. Duties & Responsibilities Manage the care of patients within assigned area and/or area of expertise and within parameters of medical staff privileges. Obtain relevant patient health history. Study and interpret patient tests and records. Perform physical exam and record findings. Perform various diagnostic, preventive and/or therapeutic procedures and/or order special screenings and developmental or laboratory tests to diagnose conditions; interpret results. Prescribe/order appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions and develop a treatment plan. Develop an educational plan for patient/family. Assist with scheduling of patients for upcoming procedures including coordinating with other services (division, departments) and completion of necessary documentation, scheduling forms and clearance. Order appropriate consultation/referral. Determine effectiveness of treatment plan with documentation of treatment provided and patient outcomes. Reassess and modify plan with patient/family and treatment team within the parameters of medical staff privileges. Participates in the educational experiences of nursing students, medical students, residents and other healthcare disciplines. By being involved in case conferences, serving as a preceptor and mentor, assisting with curriculum development and instruction. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Completion of a master's/post-master's degree in a nurse practitioner educational program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) with emphasis on adult-gerontology acute care, family, emergency and trauma nurse practitioner. Current board certification as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications are required. Current AHA ACLS and PALS certification- they need Current AHA BLS and PALS certification. Effective communication skills (oral and written) that facilitatethe therapeutic relationships between Physician, APRN and PA providers as well as college and hospital leadership and the multi-disciplinary team. Having APRN experience in Emergency Medicine or Urgent Care settings is preferred. All APRNs caring for children in the emergency department and fast track/urgent care area shall have documentation of a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education in pediatric emergency topics every two years that are approved by an accrediting agency preferred.
