As a Cleanroom Technician on the Lightspeed team, you support rapid development projects by assembling and processing medical device components in a cleanroom environment. You follow detailed work instructions, complete small-batch and prototype builds, and provide clear feedback on build performance and process improvements. You work on multiple projects each week, often with unique builds, while performing precise measurements, inspections, and documentation in alignment with quality management system requirements.

Responsibilities

• Follow written, verbal, and drawing-based work instructions to assemble panels for medical devices and laser process components.
• Execute rapid development and prototype builds for multiple projects each week, ensuring accuracy and consistency for each unique build.
• Perform micro laser ablation, measurement, and inspection of arterial stents according to established procedures.
• Carry out micro laser etching of dental implant parts while maintaining strict quality and cleanliness standards.
• Inspect parts for quality, defects, and conformance using microscopes and other inspection tools.
• Use measuring equipment such as calipers and micrometers to verify dimensions and tolerances of parts.
• Document all work accurately within the quality management system, including completing job travelers and certificates of conformance.
• Sign off on travelers, create and apply labels for parts, and ensure traceability and proper documentation for each job.
• Provide feedback to the team on build processes, challenges, and opportunities for improvement based on hands-on experience.
• Operate different production and laser-related machines safely and efficiently within a cleanroom environment.
• Work independently to manage assigned tasks, prioritize workload, and meet project timelines.
• Participate in required training, including an initial training period on first shift, and apply learned procedures to daily work.
• Support occasional overtime needs, including staying late or working some Saturdays on a voluntary basis.

Essential Skills

• At least 4 years of experience in medical device production.
• Proven ability to operate independently in a production or cleanroom environment.
• Hands-on experience with assembly of medical device components or similar precision products.
• Proficiency using calipers, micrometers, and other measuring equipment for dimensional inspection.
• Experience performing quality assurance and inspection tasks, including defect identification and documentation.
• Comfort working with microscopes for detailed inspection and measurement.
• Ability to operate different machines used in medical device or cleanroom production.
• Experience documenting work within a quality management system (QMS), including travelers and related records.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurement, inspection, and documentation.
• Ability to follow detailed written, verbal, and drawing-based instructions.
• Capability to lift up to 20 lbs and perform tasks while sitting for most of the day, with the option to stand as needed.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a cleanroom manufacturing environment, preferably in medical devices.
• Familiarity with micro laser processing, such as ablation and etching, for small precision components.
• Background in working on both volume manufacturing and research and development (R&D) projects.
• Comfort working on multiple, rapidly changing projects and adapting to new build requirements.
• Strong communication skills for providing clear feedback on build processes and outcomes.
• Organized approach to data entry, labeling, and documentation to ensure full traceability.
• Commitment to completing a two-week training period on first shift prior to moving to the regular shift.

Work Environment

This role is based in a medical device cleanroom manufacturing environment, working primarily with precision components such as arterial stents and dental implant parts. The position is on second shift, typically from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with an extra 30 minutes of paid time included to provide an 8-hour paid day. A shift differential applies for working the second shift. You must complete approximately two weeks of training on first shift before transitioning to your regular schedule. Work is performed mostly while seated at cleanroom workstations equipped with chairs, though you may stand as needed. You should be comfortable lifting up to 20 lbs as part of routine tasks. The cleanroom environment requires adherence to strict cleanliness and procedural standards, and you may occasionally work voluntary overtime by staying late or working some Saturdays. You will regularly use microscopes, calipers, micrometers, and various production and laser machines as part of daily operations.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.

The pay range for this position is $24.61 - $24.61/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
