Education Manager

The Education Manager manages the promotion, administration, and operations of ICA learning and engagement programs, working closely with the Director of Learning and Engagement to manage programs including, but not limited to, school outreach programs, year-round classes, summer camps, public programs, and community partnerships. Overseeing a team of teaching artists and working closely with community partners, the Education Manager carries out the day-to-day program communications and operations central to the ICA’s vision of becoming a living laboratory for the transformational power of art to build vibrant communities. The Education Manager reports to the Director of Learning and Engagement. Program Management Responsibilities Plan, develop, and oversee the daily administration of learning and engagement programs, including promotion/recruitment, admissions, curricular content and implementation, final presentations, and evaluations Manage program logistics, including scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and materials procurement to ensure efficient and sustainable operations Track and assess program outcomes through data collection, feedback, and evaluations, using insights to improve and refine offerings. Provide information to Grants Manager to create reports for funders, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and demonstrating program impact. Design lesson plans, and support teaching artists in the design of lesson plans Communicate with students, parents, educators, and local partners to provide information about programs, facilitate enrollment, and resolve questions Build relationships with prospective students, parents, school/educator and community-based partners to foster partnership and promote participation in ICA programs Manage program budgets to ensure efficiency and sustainability Valise Project: Manage the Valise Project program by coordinating with teaching artists and schools, scheduling sessions, assigning lessons, and overseeing delivery quality Explore + Make field trips: Lead development of tailored K–12 field trip programs, aligning with state standards and teacher objectives. Summer and spring camp: Design, implement, and evaluate camp curriculum and activities, ensuring alignment with ICA’s educational mission Art classes: Oversee all promotion and correspondence related to art classes, oversee enrollment, supervise teaching artist administrative responsibilities, and communicate with students Outreach and Promotional Responsibilities Establish and maintain partnerships with schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders to expand outreach and promote participation in ICA programs Regularly update local newsletters and platforms to promote ICA programs Oversee effective promotional and recruitment strategies to ensure that classes and programs are filled Supervisory Responsibilities In collaboration with the Director of Learning and Engagement, hire, train, supervise, and provide feedback for teaching artists (permanent and seasonal) and interns Oversee the scheduling of teaching artists for classes, camps, tours, and school outreach program visits Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and a culture of excellence Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proactive attitude and excellent interpersonal and customer service skills Excellent time management and organizational skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to interact with all students of all ages Good understanding of computers and software and the ability to learn and use new technologies as needed Familiarity with spreadsheet and database operations Strong relationship building skills Ability to lift 40lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of Wordpress, Shopify, and other online sales/CRM tools Required Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Art Education, Studio Art, Museum Studies, Arts Administration, or related field OR; 3-5+ years of experience in program management, in a museum or education setting Proven experience with program development, budgeting, and staff supervision CPR certification (ICA will provide if necessary) Background check via LiveScan must clear (ICA will provide) Preferred Education and Experience Experience working with community-based organizations and schools Experience writing curricula Experience managing a classroom Experience managing a team Work Environment and Physical Demands The Education Manager will work primarily at the ICA North (Encinitas) location, as well as the ICA Central (Balboa Park) location. This role will also require some onsite work at locations throughout the San Diego region. Frequent lifting, standing for prolonged periods, occasional bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling might be expected. Should you require any reasonable accommodations, please contact the HR Manager. Compensation The annual salary range for this role is $58,000 - $62,000. A typical shift is 8 hours, weekdays between 9am to 5pm, some weekends and evenings as needed. Benefits include $450 toward monthly medical insurance premium, 120 hours paid time off in the first year, fourteen paid holidays in a calendar year, staff appreciation days, discounts at select Balboa Park restaurants and shops, and free admission to member museums.
