Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical Cardiac Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-Hour Days Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Medical Cardiac experience Ability to titrate drips Description: Unit 6 North is a medical cardiac telemetry unit with 32 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 during the day shift and 1:6 during the night shift. RNs are required to have BLS and ACLS certifications. Common diagnoses include congestive heart failure (CHF) and other medical cardiac conditions. RNs are responsible for titrating drips, including amiodarone, heparin, insulin, and diltiazem. Each shift has a charge nurse who also takes an assignment. There are patient care technicians on this unit, responsible for vital signs, bathing, blood glucose checks, phlebotomy, and activities of daily living (ADLs). RNs are expected to troubleshoot high flow and BiPAP equipment for less than 24 hours. There is virtual monitoring on the unit, and RNs will read strips during their shift using GE telemetry monitors. Self-scheduling and block scheduling options are available. Weekend work is required every other weekend or less, and holiday assignments are rotated. On-call duty is a last resort for travelers. The charting system used is EPIC.
