THE POSITION

Join the Department of Transportation as a Transportation Technician. This role gives you the chance to support safe and successful construction projects across the region. You will work with skilled teams, learn important inspection skills, and help keep projects on track. Bring your motivation to a role that directly supports Pennsylvania transportation.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports transportation construction projects by inspecting work, reviewing materials, and assisting with project documentation. The role helps ensure that all work follows standards, codes, and project requirements. As a Transportation Technician, you will perform the following duties:

• Construction Inspection: Check all phases of transportation construction for compliance with contracts and standards
• Material Review: Observe material placement and testing for concrete, asphalt, drainage, and related work
• Project Documentation: Complete reports, quantity estimates, work orders, and electronic project entries
• Field Problem Solving: Assist in resolving construction issues and verify calculations and sketches
• Record Management: Track material quantities, maintain documentation, and enter data into ECMS
• Regulation Compliance: Ensure project activities follow regulations, policies, and environmental practices

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• You will work closely with vendors and work hours may change based on vendor availability.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad-hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Indiana. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or
• One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

• This particular position requires possession of a valid Class C Driver's License.
