Trade Compliance Attorney

We are looking for a Trade Compliance Attorney to support a retail organization in Burnsville, Minnesota with high-impact customs and international trade matters. This Long-term Contract position will serve as a key legal resource for both immediate compliance needs and longer-range planning, helping business leaders make informed decisions in a complex regulatory environment. The ideal candidate can turn technical trade rules into practical guidance, identify opportunities to reduce risk and cost, and provide responsive counsel on import and export issues affecting daily operations.Responsibilities:• Advise business partners on a broad range of customs and trade compliance issues, balancing day-to-day legal support with longer-term strategic recommendations.• Provide counsel on import and export activities, including regulatory obligations, documentation expectations, and operational compliance considerations.• Evaluate tariff classifications, customs valuation questions, and duty treatment to help the business manage exposure and improve decision-making.• Support matters involving duty relief programs, free trade agreement eligibility, and rules of origin determinations.• Interpret new or changing trade regulations and convert them into clear, practical guidance for leaders and cross-functional stakeholders.• Review products and transactions for potential anti-dumping and countervailing duty impact, including analysis of whether goods fall within the applicable scope.• Monitor U.S. and international export control and trade requirements to identify developments that may affect the organization.• Help strengthen customs compliance processes by identifying opportunities to streamline procedures, improve controls, and create more proactive legal support.• Respond quickly to internal legal and compliance questions, outlining risks, options, and recommended next steps in a concise and business-focused manner.
