Maintenance mechanic

Shift: 2nd (3pm-11pm) Pay: 29-33/hr (DOE) Location: Kansas City, MO As a Maintenance Mechanic, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing all furnaces, equipment, and buildings in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and specifications. You will utilize your expertise in electrical systems, piping, and welding to troubleshoot building systems and electronic equipment to ensure maximum operational uptime.

What You'll Do

• Multidisciplinary Maintenance: Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, piping, refrigeration, and chemical systems on all equipment and buildings.
• Fabrication & Piping: Layout and install piping systems using pipe threading machines, silver solder, and hand tools. Fabricate tanks, fixtures, conveyors, and furnaces using welding equipment, blueprints, and schematics.
• Electrical Support: Install, diagnose, and repair plant electrical systems and electronic equipment.
• Structural Work: Install, repair, and replace fire brick as needed for furnace integrity.
• Rigging: Install and move equipment and systems using forklifts, hoists, and heavy-duty transport tools.
• Inspections: Perform and document preventive maintenance (PM) inspections on meters, gauges, recorders, charts, filters, belts, and grease fittings.

Required Experience & Skills:

• Education: High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma (GED).
• Experience: 2-3 years of industrial maintenance experience (experience in heat-treating or heavy manufacturing environments preferred).
• Proficiency reading blueprints, technical diagrams, and equipment operation manuals.
• Physical ability to operate heavy machinery (forklifts, hoists) and handle standard industrial maintenance physical demands.

Responsibilities

• System Maintenance & Repair: Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, piping, refrigeration, and chemical systems across all equipment and buildings.
• Electrical Troubleshooting: Install and troubleshoot building electrical systems and electronic equipment.
• Preventive Maintenance (PM): Perform and document routine PM inspections on meters, gauges, recorders, charts, filters, belts, grease fittings, quench oil/lubrication levels, thermocouple checks, furnace internals, and safety devices.
• Equipment Operation & Installation: Move and install heavy equipment and systems safely utilizing forklifts, hoists, and lifting platforms.
• Fabrication & Welding: Fabricate tanks, fixtures, conveyors, furnaces, and other specialized equipment using welding gear, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
• Piping Systems: Lay out and install piping systems using pipe-threading machines, silver solder, and hand tools.
• Compliance & Testing: Ensure timely completion of Temperature Uniformity Surveys (TUS), System Accuracy Tests (SAT), and equipment calibrations. Prepare and maintain all necessary testing devices and supporting reports.
• Facility Care: Install, repair, and replace fire brick as needed; unload, transport, and store fabrication materials safely.

The essential functions of this role include:

• wearing steel toe shoes
• working in a non-temperature controlled environment
• manual lifting up to 50lbs
• standing for 8 hours at one time
• working up to 10 hrs of overtime per week
