SUMMARY This is a faculty position responsible to the Chief of the Section of Neuropsychology and the Chair of the Department of Neuro-Oncology, who reports directly to the Head of the Division of Cancer Medicine. GENERAL DUTIES Provides clinical neuropsychological expertise in patient care and management for adult patients with cancer, patients suffering from the neurological effects of cancer on the central nervous system, patients with medical, neurological, and psychiatric conditions. Participates in teaching fellows, externs, and graduate student trainees in the specialty of clinical neuropsychology. Participates in clinical research related to the neuropsychological complications of cancer. Oversees the technicians assigned in this area. Fellowship training in clinical neuropsychology is required; additional training and/or experience in oncology is desired but not required. Candidate should meet criteria for full licensure in the state of Texas. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS I. Provide inpatient and outpatient clinical neuropsychological care to a population of cancer patients referred to UT MD Anderson. Practice neuropsychology in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, and the American Psychological Association, properly balanced with other academic activities. III. Provide clinician staffing for the outpatient clinic and the inpatient consultative service at a level commensurate with that which would be provided by other clinical neuropsychologists with the same level of training and experience. Visually review for proper ICD-10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within 5 working days. Complete patient documentation for medical records within time frames provided by the institution. Will require writing/dictating in a clear and concise manner and visual review of documents. Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with referring physicians regarding patient care and treatment. Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences in the specialty. This will require listening to and assimilating information from the conference. Require appropriate consultations for neuropsychology patients by phone conversations or in writing to other clinicians and physicians. IV. Engagement in clinical research and scholarly activity in keeping with the goals of the section and department is encouraged. Provide a balanced and integrated educational experience in neuropsychology for externs, graduate students, and neuropsychology fellows for those who rotate through the clinical neuropsychology service and clinic. Attend and participate in department/division teaching and continuing education conferences. IV. Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings. Listen to deliberations and provide verbal feedback as necessary. Visually review all documents pertaining to committee functions. V. Represent the Department of Neuro Oncology and Section of Neuropsychology in local, regional, state and national matters pertaining to the field of neuropsychology and the effects of cancer on the central nervous system. Will require traveling to sites outside of the Houston area and, upon return, disseminating the information obtained or learned by sharing with department colleagues verbally or in writing. VII. Strive to be a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, externs, students, and psychometrists rotating on the service. VIII. Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the department. IX. Must be able to work within a context of close interpersonal relationships including other clinicians, physicians, patients and subordinates.
