Orthopedic Associates Surgery Center is seeking to hire a full time (40 hours per week) experienced Pre-Op/Procedure Room Registered Nurse to join our ambulatory surgery center team of professionals.

Position Summary:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the achievement of patient outcomes in accordance with the mission of the facility.

Primary Job Responsibilities for Pre-Op:

  • Assesses, plans, evaluates and ensures the implementation of the patient's care to achieve identified outcomes.
  • Assesses patient status on pre-op assessment phone calls, on admission and on an ongoing basis.
  • Implements appropriate standards of care based on assessment data and patient's own goals.
  • Goals are mutually set with the patient and family
  • Coordinates nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and to ensure readiness for discharge.
  • Ensures provision of patient care daily in an organized and timely manner.
  • Adheres to all facility policies and procedures when providing patient care.
  • Utilizes nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care.
  • Demonstrates ability to direct and provide for patient care in emergency situations.
  • Assesses learning needs according to the patient's level of understanding and readiness to learn.

Primary Job Responsibilities for Pain Room:

  1. Assumes the Circulator RN role when assigned to the Procedure room.
  • Assists with preparation of the Procedure Room for pain procedures
  • Assists with medication preparation using sterile technique.
  • Assist with care, preparation, maintenance and after-care of sterile and unsterile supplies and equipment.
  • Knows and practices the principles and techniques of sterile technique.
  • Removes drape at end of procedure, cleanses the patient of prep solution and applies dressing as needed.
  • Cleans instruments and equipment after use and returns it to proper area for storage for processing.
  • Participates in inventory count and material management functions.
  • Assists with stocking, replenishing and preparation of supplies.
  • Demonstrates competency in performing job tasks and in operating equipment on an annual basis.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to correlate clinical data with patient's medical and nursing care.
  • Ability to set priorities.
  • Ability to provide direction to others that is clear and concise and promotes efficiency on the unit.
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, etc.
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility with regards to assignments, schedule.

Position Requirements:

  • Current unencumbered Registered Nurse License practice in Connecticut.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Course.
  • ACLS is required and will be obtained within 3 months from the date of hire.
  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
  • At least one year in med/surg experience preferred.
