SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SPECIALIST/THERAPIST (2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR) QUALIFICATIONS:

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE SPECIALIST/THERAPIST (2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR) QUALIFICATIONS:
- California credential authorizing service in area of speech and hearing
- Evidence showing definite potential for success
- Bilingual ability desired
- Effectively screens pupils for communicative disorders and selects cases according to appropriate criteria as determined by speech and language specialist and by state and federal guidelines
- Employs assessment procedures, techniques and standard tests necessary for thorough and accurate diagnosis and conveys pertinent information to appropriate personnel, including referrals for medical or other professional attention
- Establishes individual education plan for students admitted to program and reviews IEPs at least annually
- Implements IEP for pupils admitted to program; provides therapy for individuals and/or groups
- Maintains contact and coordinates efforts to serve related professionals
- Utilizes results of current resources to improve program
- Carries out appropriate follow-up procedures for pupils dismissed from speech and language program
- Participates in conferences and meetings
- Pursues professional growth through education workshops and coursework
- Assumes responsibility for implementation of state and federal regulations as related to speech and language services
- Participates in formation of policies, standards and objectives of District speech and language specialist
- Participates in preparation of District guides, forms and procedures
- Acquaints administrators and other school personnel with speech, language and hearing problems, and resources in community
- Participates in curriculum planning and evaluations
- Participates in preparation of master calendar for speech and language problems
- Serves as member of special education individual education program team as required
- Assesses and makes necessary referrals for preschool children with communicative disorders
- Prepares required District attendance records and state reports
- Provides information and assistance to parents
