Safety Coordinator

Job Description Plan, coordinate and implement Southland's safety, health and environmental protection programs, ensuring compliance with corporate safety standards and industry regulations, and promoting a safe, incident-free work environment for Southland employees. Responsibilities Facilitate a work environment that supports a safe and healthy culture, helping Southland create and maintain a behavior‑driven safety program. Purposefully monitor, correct and educate the workforce on issues relating to workplace health and safety. Conduct worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous conditions, proper use of equipment, proper material handling and use of PPE. Conduct and coordinate housekeeping inspections and safety audits with special emphasis on hazard recognition, unsafe behaviors and OSHA compliance. Document and communicate inspection results to site supervision, identify and recommend solutions to hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions, and follow through to ensure 100% compliance and conformance. Coordinate and control the development and review of task hazard analysis (THA) and job hazard analysis (JHA) for each assigned project; identify safety needs and facilitate the necessary training as required. Provide technical, training, and administrative support on site‑specific safety, health and environmental issues. Oversee and ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA and DOT regulations as they relate to company operations. Investigate accidents, near‑misses, occupational injuries, and property damage claims; compile data, take photos, and prepare all pertinent forms and required reports. Attend accident review meetings as directed. Conduct new hire safety training as needed. Issue various permits such as confined space permits as required. Accompany OSHA and other safety and health inspectors on walk‑through tours, document their activities and ensure prompt correction of all noted discrepancies. Develop positive relationships with field supervision and management through regular face‑to‑face meetings and communications regarding site safety progress. Prepare, submit, file and maintain all essential safety paperwork accurately and thoroughly. Perform additional assignments as requested or needed. Qualifications 4‑year degree in occupational safety/health or equivalent combination of technical training and construction‑related safety experience. Required certifications: OSHA 510 or 511, First Aid/CPR. At least 2 years' experience in construction safety management and/or industrial safety management. Thorough understanding of and ability to enforce all applicable federal, state, local and company regulations. Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures. Experience in properly documenting accident and incident investigations. Solid computer skills and ability to work effectively in MS Office. Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to work extended and irregular hours.
