Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design, coordination, and delivery of complex MEP projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for mechanical systems design, code compliance, BIM/Revit modeling, and construction support while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals on schedule and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical system design for commercial, institutional, and industrial projects, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection coordination with other disciplines.
• Develop detailed design drawings, specifications, and calculations that meet client requirements and applicable codes and standards.
• Manage and produce BIM models using Revit; implement model-based design workflows and coordinate multidisciplinary models for clash detection and constructability.
• Use Newforma or equivalent project information management tools to organize project documentation, submittals, RFIs, and revision control.
• Ensure compliance with building codes, local regulations, ASHRAE standards, and other applicable authorities; prepare code analyses and permit documentation.
• Provide engineering leadership during construction administration: respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, perform site visits, and support commissioning and start-up activities.
• Perform sizing, load calculations, energy modeling support, and equipment selection while optimizing system performance and lifecycle costs.
• Prepare cost estimates, scope statements, and technical proposals; coordinate with clients, contractors, and vendors to resolve technical issues.
• Mentor and train junior engineers and designers, provide technical reviews, and promote best practices in mechanical engineering and BIM workflows.
• Drive continuous improvement in QA/QC processes, model standards, and project delivery methodologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering; Masters degree preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe; active PE is strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of mechanical/MEP engineering experience, including project leadership and construction administration.
• Proven proficiency in Revit for MEP design and BIM coordination; experience managing models and performing clash detection.
• Experience with Newforma or similar project information management and collaboration platforms.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical codes and standards (IMC, IPC, NFPA, ASHRAE), permitting processes, and code compliance documentation.
• Demonstrated experience with HVAC system design, hydronic systems, plumbing, and equipment selection.
• Familiarity with energy modeling, sustainable design practices, and LEED or similar certification processes is a plus.
• Excellent technical writing, communication, and client-facing skills; ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and team collaboration capabilities; attention to detail and commitment to quality deliverables.
