How Will You Help Drive The Future Of Natural Gas?

Manage engineering and construction projects in the PGS Corporate Engineering and Construction Department. Lead project teams as the single point of accountability for all aspects of project execution. The project manager is also responsible for all phases of planning and executing projects to meet the goals of the company with respect to schedule, financial, and operating performance. The duties include conflict resolution between the company and the engineering, construction, equipment, and material providers.

What You Need To Succeed

Bachelor's degree from an ABET/regionally accredited institution in Engineering, Construction, Business or a related field. A minimum of 8 years of experience in major construction activities or equivalent combination of experience and education with a focus on engineering, scheduling, budgeting, cost controls and contract claims negotiations. Strong understanding of natural gas transmission and distribution systems engineering, design and construction; Ability to lead and motivate team members; Strong communication and teamwork skills are necessary to be effective.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Manage the construction and contribute to the planning, engineering, procurement, and start-up of multiple capital projects. Manage project scope, cost, time, risk, quality, procurement, communications and human resources in order to drive project execution and meet project objectives. Management responsibilities begin with project construction initiation and include planning, execution, monitoring and controlling, and project close-out. Be accountable for project performance measured by safety, schedule, financial, and operating goals. Thoroughly understand the project business cases. This includes, as necessary, contributing to the development of varying solutions or scope options for comparison, economic analysis, and development of non-economic project justification. Ensure the business case is well documented in project authorization documents (AFE, Work Orders). Manage development of project execution plans and ensure adherence to the project specific plans or to the standard project management procedures as appropriate. Lead decision making concerning the extent to which detailed project specific plans are required. Ensure plans are updated when needed to meet changing conditions or requirements. Ensure the project plans, estimates, and schedules are reasonable and achievable. Manage change control procedures and forecast project resource requirements. Effectively plan, organize, and coordinate the work of; Operations personnel, multi-discipline engineers, construction supervisors, procurement personnel, or others assigned to a project team, in a manner that supports the project, company and department goals and objectives. Manage project communications. This includes identifying project stakeholders and keeping them well informed; effectively facilitating regular project team meetings; delivering engaging, informative, well-organized presentations; resolving and/or escalating issues in a timely fashion; and understanding how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully. Ensure accurate project status reporting. This includes updates on cost, schedule, status, and critical items which may materially affect project performance or department or company operations. Present project status to management and key stakeholders on a regular basis.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge?

MBA or graduate degree in Engineering. Project Management certification, PE. Working knowledge of work management systems, project management and cost control systems. Experience managing general construction and/or engineering contracts; Experience with facility improvements and maintenance/upgrades desirable. Minimum of three (3) years direct or indirect supervisory experience.

Who Will Be A Part Of Your Team?

Direct Supervision: May provide direct supervision for project administrators, project contracted support staff and contractors. Indirect Supervision: Coordination with project teams made up of engineering, construction, project controls, contracts and other disciplines as required during project related activities. Key Internal: Frequent interface with Operations, supervision, and planning and budgeting groups, engineering, contracts department, environmental health and safety, general accounting, information services, regulatory and other departments within the company; Frequent contact with Managers and Directors; Occasional contact with Vice President or President Key External: Frequent contact with outside engineering and construction firms, equipment and material suppliers; Occasional contact with federal, state and municipal regulators.

Incident Response Assignment Our community relies on Peoples Gas to respond swiftly and effectively to all types of incidents, including but not limited to major storm events (e.g., extreme cold, tropical storms, hurricanes), gas leaks, equipment failures, environmental hazards, and other emergencies that may impact public safety or service continuity. Peoples Gas depends on each team member to fulfill their primary and/or alternate roles and responsibilities during such incidents. As a Team Member of Peoples Gas, you will be assigned an Incident Response Assignment, receive training related to your role, and may participate in mock drills or exercises simulating various emergency scenarios.
