About the Role

An Undisclosed Family Investment Office in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. This position will support the financial management of multiple operating and non-operating entities and will play an important role in maintaining accurate accounting records, preparing reports, reconciling accounts, and supporting month-end financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of Staff Accountant experience , a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting , strong Excel and QuickBooks skills , and experience preparing or supporting monthly financial statements .

Key Responsibilities

• Post monthly journal entries for all non-operating entities.
• Reconcile most checking accounts on a monthly basis.
• Prepare weekly cash reports summarizing activity across various cash and short-term investment accounts.
• Maintain updated cash projections covering the next several months.
• Perform month-end accounting activities in QuickBooks .
• Prepare combined financial statements in Excel for select operating companies.
• Support accounting for operating companies whose day-to-day accounting is managed by outside management companies.
• Prepare additional financial reports, analyses, and schedules as needed.
• Assist with maintaining accurate and timely financial records across multiple entities.
• Support management with accounting information and financial reporting as requested.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required.
• Minimum 1 year of Staff Accountant experience required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel , including the ability to work with financial data and prepare reports.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks .
• Experience preparing or supporting monthly financial statements .
• Strong understanding of general accounting principles.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to handle confidential financial information professionally.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

The ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable working with detailed financial information, can manage recurring accounting responsibilities accurately, and is able to prepare clear financial reports and analysis.

Experience working with multiple entities, cash reporting, account reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close activities will be highly valued.
