JOB DESCRIPTION
RN - MedSurg/Tele

· 109 Licensed Beds
· No Trauma Designation
· Not a Teaching Hospital – no residents/students
· Advanced Primary Stroke Center
· Radius rule: Traveler's permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit
Unit Information:
· Beds: 27
Census? Average 20
· Minimum Years of Experience required? 18 months Med/Tele experience
· Will you accept a first-time traveler? Not preferred, will consider (Resource Team)
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
· Stroke, COPD, Chest Pain, Altered Mental Status, GI bleed
Patient Ratios:
· RN: 1:5-6, acuity dependent - (surge staffing could increase ratios up to 1:7-8)
Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
· BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Skills required:
· General Med/Tele skillset: Stroke experience/NIH assessments, Chest tube management, PIV starts, trach care, Cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management, etc), PCA pumps
· Medication gtt management to include: Cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, IVF
Support within the Department:
· CNA? Duties? Yes, CNA's can insert foleys if certified and remove IV's for Discharge if certified, in addition to Vitals, ADLs, etc.
· Receptionist/HUC? Dayshift only
· Charge nurse – may or may not have patient assignment
· Phlebotomy, 24/7
· No designated IV/VAT Team
· RT, 24/7
· Hospitalist, 24/7
· Telemetry monitoring/tech? Yes
Technology/Equipment:
· EMR: Epic
· IV Pump: Alaris
· Med dispensing: Omnicell
· Monitors: Philips
Floating: If yes, where?
· Within region and scope of practice
· Will be required to float per region needs – will require floating to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice – DECLINE if not agreeable
Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH (peds only) -- could float to any of the facilities within region if the need arises
If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock)
