Utility WorkerPAY: $22.50/hr LOCATION: Ontario, OR SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PMWhy This OpportunityThis onsite Utility Worker role supports water distribution, wastewater collection, streets, and related public works activities in Ontario, Oregon. The position combines infrastructure maintenance, equipment operation, customer service, and required after-hours emergency response.Key Responsibilities• Operate, repair, and maintain streets, water distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, storm drains, sewer lift stations, and related utility infrastructure.• Inspect, repair, and maintain water lines, standpipes, valves, pumps, water meters, manholes, cleanouts, catch basins, and other utility components.• Install, repair, and read water meters; exercise valves; perform water shut-offs and turn-ons.• Perform street maintenance including paving, patching, sign maintenance, concrete repair and installation, snow removal, and sanding.• Operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs on light and heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders, sewer cleaners, and welders.• Clean and inspect assigned equipment and tools before and after use, perform preventive maintenance, and report defects or needed repairs to the lead worker or supervisor.• Respond to customer service requests, report findings, and address customer complaints with courteous and prompt attention.• Use utility locator services before any excavation.• Follow safety rules and procedures, maintain clean and orderly work areas, and complete daily activities according to work schedules.• Produce records and reports related to work activities and measure, compute, and convert English and metric systems.• Report public hazards such as potholes, fallen street signs, and water leaks.• Maintain cooperative and respectful work relationships with coworkers and supervisors.• Assist other public works departments as needed.• Participate in required on-call coverage and respond to after-hours emergencies within a reasonable time.Required Qualifications• Some prior experience in water distribution, sewer collections, and street maintenance.• High school diploma or GED.• Valid driver's license.Work EnvironmentThis onsite role includes street and utility maintenance, operation and minor repair of light and heavy equipment, excavation-related work requiring use of a utility locator service, snow removal and sanding, and required on-call after-hours emergency response. The work also includes customer service requests and work involving water, wastewater, storm-drain, and sewer infrastructure.Work AuthorizationApplicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US.
