Applied Mathematician for AI Benchmark Authoring and Review

Develop and validate rigorous academic mathematics assessments that support AI research benchmarks. This remote role focuses on producing high-quality multiple-choice problems and reviewing them for the precision, clarity, and depth expected of gold-standard evaluation content.

Role Overview

You will contribute through either question authoring or question verification in one or more of these domains: Signal Processing; Financial Mathematics and Actuarial Science; Mathematical Economics; Mathematical Modeling of Ecological and Biological Systems; Mathematical Programming and Combinatorial Optimization; Geomathematics and Climate Modeling.

Key Responsibilities

• Author original, challenging multiple-choice mathematics questions that assess deep conceptual understanding rather than surface-level recall.
• Ensure every question is unambiguous, self-contained, precisely defined, and includes all information needed to solve it.
• Assign a difficulty rating of Medium, introductory undergraduate; Hard, advanced undergraduate; or Expert, postgraduate and above.
• Provide one correct answer and nine plausible, subtly incorrect answer choices designed to challenge expert-level solvers.
• Write clear, concise step-by-step reasoning solutions in Markdown, including intermediate steps.
• Provide one to five academic references per question from reputable sources, including peer-reviewed journals or university repositories.
• For verification assignments, review pre-written questions for accuracy, clarity, rigor, completeness, precision, and solvability; make needed edits, rate difficulty, and document and justify changes.
• For authoring assignments, create questions within your mathematical specialty, rate their difficulty, and submit them for review.

Qualifications

• PhD or doctoral candidacy in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related field.
• A master''s degree may be considered when paired with exceptional depth in a specific subdomain.
• Strong command of graduate-level mathematics and formal proof writing.
• Experience designing rigorous academic problems or writing mathematical competition questions is a strong advantage.
• Excellent written English and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely.

Work Terms

• Fully remote, asynchronous hourly engagement.
• Expected commitment of at least 10 hours per week.

Compensation

• Hourly pay of $61 to $77.
