Tractor Trailer Driver ***TEMPORARY***

Job Description

****TEMPORARY ASSIGNMENT through December 31, 2026****

Operating Government provided trucks, including tractor/trailer, in support of GSFC.

Duties and Responsibilities


* Performs operator's maintenance in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
* Performs pre-operation check on assigned vehicle daily to ensure adequate fuel and lubricant levels, that all safety devices are operational and maintain vehicle cleanliness
* Notifies Dispatcher of any mechanical problem or body damage
* Operates assigned vehicle(s) to pick-up and deliver materials and equipment both on and off site
* Obtains required signatures, completes related paperwork documenting the pick-up/delivery, returns paperwork to the Dispatcher
* Notifies Dispatcher if delivery is refused or not delivered, and reason for refusal or inability to deliver
* Operates a forklift to assist in the unloading and loading of vehicles/equipment
* Operates and safeguards any communications equipment assigned and maintains communications with Dispatcher as required
* Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Skills and Qualifications
* Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A, with applicable endorsements as required by position
* Ability to safely operate a manual transmission tractor-trailer (no automatic restriction on CDL)
* Must present a current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC) issued by a certified medical provider listed on the National Register of Certified Medical Examiners
* Subject to pre-employment and ongoing Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) checks to confirm a safe driving history
* Must pass a DOT-compliant pre-employment drug screen and participate in an employer administered drug and alcohol testing program, which includes:
* Random testing
* Post-accident testing
* Reasonable suspicion testing
* Return-to-duty and follow-up testing (if applicable)
* Must consent to a full query of the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse prior to hire, and to annual limited queries during employment
* Must report any CDL suspensions, disqualifications, or convictions for traffic violations in accordance with Federal regulations
* Must know and follow state and federal commercial vehicle regulations enforced by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Department of Transportation
* Three years' experience operating tractor trailer vehicles
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
* Sensitive equipment training and certification may be required for handling and moving Program Critical Hardware (PCH)
* Must possess basic computer literacy skills to include the use of the internet and operative skills regarding MS Office Programs
* Must share a commitment to maintaining a positive, collaborative work environment while simultaneously optimizing individual performance and contribution

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
* Ability to operate material handling equipment
* Ability to pass a NASA GSFC forklift physical
* Capable of lifting packages weighing up to 70 pounds
* Ability to stoop, bend, push and pull
* The work of this position is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment

Terms of Employment & Eligibility Requirements
* Must be a U.S. Citizen
* Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
* Must possess a valid driver's license, without special restrictions
* Must be able to successfully complete a background screening
* Must possess or be able to obtain a public trust clearance prior to employment and maintain public
trust clearance for the duration of employment

Rate of Pay/Benefits

Internal Hire Hourly Rate: $36.26
External Hire Hourly Rate: $27.20

*CBA states new hires hourly rate will be calculated at 75% for the 12 months of employment.
