Leave Management Specialist
The Department of Residential Facilities is responsible for the maintenance and housekeeping services for the College Park Campus' 70+ residence halls, fraternity and sorority chapter houses, and recreational facilities encompassing over 2.7 million square feet. The department employs over 300 exempt, non-exempt, and student staff.
The Leave Management Specialist manages the Leave Management Program for the Department of Residential Facilities employees and serves as the department liaison for ADA accommodations led by University HR. This role provides responsive guidance to employees and supervisors, ensures accurate documentation and Workday coordination, and supports operational continuity in a university residential environment through consistent, confidential leave and accommodation administration. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Employee Services.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual communication skills: Spanish and/or Haitian Creole strongly preferred (professional workplace fluency for verbal explanations and basic written communication).
- HRIS/Workday proficiency: Prior experience using Workday (or similar HRIS) to review employee data, run reports, and support leave actions/documentation.
- Union/labor environment familiarity: Experience working with bargaining unit populations and applying contract-based leave provisions and processes.
- Operational HR experience: Experience supporting facilities and housekeeping staff in a university or state government institution.
Physical Demands:
- A normal office environment includes keyboarding, drafting correspondence, planning/documentation, and taking notes.
- Able to push, pull, lift, and carry objects up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to travel around campus for meetings and monitor observations of work activities for building conditions.
- Move and set up tables and chairs as part of the room setup for training sessions.
- May be asked to assist with and/or support department-wide activities in the residence halls and other campus buildings, which may require walking between buildings and climbing stairs.
- The position will require access to areas using ladders and/or scaffolding and to be on sites during periods of inclement weather.
- The position will require working outdoors, in confined spaces, utility rooms, and at rooftop elevations to assess/inspect safety conditions.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Five (5) years of professional human resources experience in the areas of employee benefits, employee leave, or employee relations. Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of human resources policies and procedures, and federal, state, and other applicable human resources related laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances. Knowledge of FMLA and ADA. Skill in applying regulatory and legislative knowledge of FMLA and ADA. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products. Skill in the use of HRIS systems. Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement. Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires an on-site presence. May be able to work remotely one day per week.
- As an exempt employee, the incumbent will be expected to work the hours needed to manage the duties of their position. Some evening and weekend work is required.
- This position is an essential employee related to catastrophic weather or other emergencies and may be required to come to campus/work remotely when the University is closed.
Salary Range: $65,000 to $68,925
