Job Summary: The medical laboratory technician will perform clinical laboratory testing across multiple sections including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, serology, transfusion services, and phlebotomy. Prepare and evaluate specimens, operate and maintain laboratory instruments, perform quality control procedures, and accurately report results using laboratory information systems. Ensure compliance with laboratory protocols and regulatory standards while supporting specimen processing, transport, and overall laboratory operations.

Required Certifications:

• Education:
  • Graduate from a medical laboratory scientist training program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or
  • The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or
  • Educational program acceptable to the American Medical Technologist (AMT).
• Certifications:
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Current certification/registration as determined by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or
  • American Medical Technologist (AMT).
• Experience: Possess a minimum of 1 year of full-time experience within the last 3 years as a Medical Technologist in a clinical facility of similar size or complexity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform a full range of clinical laboratory tests in any one or a combination of the following sections of the laboratory: hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, serology, microbiology, and blood bank.
• Determine the suitability of specimens for analysis. Prepare specimens for analysis and ensure that the physiologic state of the properties is maintained.
• Prepare reagents and primary reference materials as necessary. Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain instruments. Verify correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks.
• Identify the cause of common problems and make simple repairs.
• Recognize and react to indicators of malfunction. Locate and implement corrections. Obtain analytical data, convert to a prescribed unit of reporting, as necessary, and correlate data to verify results.
• Conduct quality control procedures on equipment, reagents and products and maintain proper records for quality control and quality assurance reports.
• Prepare specimens for transport to MTF laboratory or for mail out.
• Prepare biological waste for proper disposal

Work Environment and Schedule: Onsite: Sunday to Saturday, 0600 – 2330, including weekends, and Federal Holidays.

Compensation and Benefits: Up to $46.90 per hour + Health & Welfare

Physical requirements: Prolonged periods of standing and walking in a laboratory or clinical environment. Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull laboratory supplies, equipment, and specimen containers up to 25 pounds. Ability to work in environments with exposure to biohazardous materials, chemicals, and infectious diseases while following safety and infection control protocols.
