Family and Children’s Advocate

The New Orleans Family Justice Center is a nationally recognized, dynamic collaborative organization dedicated to providing immediate, effective and comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking.

The Family & Children’s Advocate provides trauma-informed advocacy, support, and program coordination to children and families impacted by domestic, sexual assault, human trafficking, stalking, and other traumas. The Family & Children’s Advocate is to work closely with the Director of Children’s Program and Youth Case Manager ensuring that children programming requirements are being met by working closely with FJC families.

Major Responsibilities

· Attend all required training, program, workshops, staff meetings, and supervisory sessions.

· Oversee the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of Camp Hope and Pathways.

· Develop and maintain engaging, age-appropriate programming for children and youth.

· Coordinate program 12 Pathway activities, weekly workshops, mentoring opportunities, recreational activities, and family engagement activities.

· Recruit, screen, and coordinate volunteers, interns, mentors, presenters, and community partners supporting Camp Hope and Pathways

· Manage program supply orders, maintain accurate inventory of program supplies – equipment, and distribute accordingly.

· Maintain accurate participant records, attendance, program documentation, and required outcome measures.

· Conduct assessments with children and families to assess behaviors and needs.

· Attend monthly webinars with Camp Hope, mentor and outreach manager and team.

· Attend monthly meeting with campsite point person.

· Facilitate proper screening of potential campers by using guidelines listed in Camp Hope America Toolkit

· Manage social media pages affiliated with Camp Hope and Pathways to Hope.

· Knowledge and compliance with Camp Hope America and affiliated campsite.

· Perform other duties as assigned for the betterment of the campers, pathways program, Camp Hope, and the council.

· Collaborate with Play land advocates to support and assess needs of children that are a part of New Orleans Family Justice Center

· Complete 40 hours of domestic violence and sexual assault trainings within the first year

Required Qualifications

· Must be at least 25 years of age

· Bachelor degree in psychology, sociology, child development, or related field of study

· Have a valid LA driver’s license

· 1 or more years’ experience working with youth in education, volunteering, camp counselor, tutoring, or coaching

· Experience with Microsoft programs such as Word and Excel

· Current certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED child and adult or willing to attend required training

· Appropriate certifications or experience for the specialty area (DV, SA, HT)

· Work with children and adults in a trauma-focused camp setting

· Understanding of the capabilities, needs, and interests of children in related area

· Able to remain calm in an emergency

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a part of a multidisciplinary team

· Ability to multi-task, problem-solve, communicate effectively, & to be flexible

· Commitment to equity, inclusion, and cultural responsiveness

Preferred Qualifications

· Master’s degree in related children’s field

· Previous mentoring and camping experience at an overnight youth camp, and/ or youth group experience

· Experience working in child abuse services & family violence

· Fluency in both English and Spanish (spoken and written)

· Comfortable in high-stress, dynamic work environments

· Strong alignment with the mission and values of the New Orleans Family Justice Center
